In our Monster Hunter World Expeditions Guide, we have covered each and every aspect of these side-quests in MHW called Expeditions.

Expeditions may seem like the most basic of all things. I mean, it is just going out and exploring the world, right? Many people may find them extremely boring and tedious but not only are Expeditions an extremely important part of Monster Hunter World, they have much more to them than it may meet the eye.

This Monster Hunter World Expeditions Guide will tell you everything about the Expeditions that you will be doing. It will tell you how you can not only make your Expeditions much more useful but also much more enjoyable. There are a lot of reasons for which you will be on Expeditions more often than not. The Expeditions have an important role to play in Monster Hunter World so let’s go ahead and take a look at how to make the most of them!

Getting Started with Monster Hunter World Expeditions

Expeditions are a great way to break away from the routine of hunting Monsters, again and again, to upgrade your gear and take on better Monsters. Essentially, an Expedition is a Free-Roam Mode for the game. Whenever you leave Astera without having an Assigned Quest or Investigation, you are on an Expedition. Whenever you decide to stay out after completing an Investigation or a quest, you are also in Free-Roam Mode.

Expeditions are a great way to acquaint yourself with a certain area and to find out different thing about different Monsters. You can do anything from mapping the environment to farming Research Points to gathering crafting components. Investigations are also unlocked through Expedition and when you gain extra knowledge about a certain Monster.

In this Monster Hunter World Expeditions Guide, we will first take a look at what Expeditions are and what you need to know about them. We will tell you a fair bit of detail on how you can get the most out of your Expeditions. Lastly, we will tell you what you need to do in order to play Expeditions with your friends since that can make this more intense and fun for pretty much everyone who plays this.

How to Do Expeditions?

There is no definitive way to go on Expeditions in Monster Hunter World. Essentially, they are determined by you and are open-ended. You can use them to get accustomed to a new area and figure out where you can trap Monsters or flank them. This is definitely something you want to do because the Monster fights can be extremely difficult in Monster Hunter World.

Try to figure out where you can go to ensure that Monsters are unable to run away or if a certain Monster will be unable to use his main source of attacks on you.

One thing that you need to remember when you are on Expeditions is that all materials that you can gather will automatically be added to the map when you first grab them. This means that you can use Expeditions to go anywhere and do anything that you want without having to worry about a whole lot else.

If you feel like you do not want to attempt any Investigations but want to reap the rewards of a Bounty, then Expeditions are the perfect way to do that. You will have absolutely no pressure nor will you be held down by a timing factor. You can go anywhere and do as you please.

Research Points are another huge plus point of the Expeditions. You can use Expeditions to gather as many as possible. These will trigger new Investigations for you and thus allow you to upgrade items. You can also use these Expeditions if you want to restock some of your ammo or other items. You will be able to find and collect the aforementioned items without being in any rush, unlike quests or Investigations.

You can use Expeditions to talk to other NPCs as well. These players will usually give you some quest which will be a little different than the ones that you are used to. The same Expedition Mode will also allow you to discover other bases which are scattered around in the world, and will generally give you a lot of different tools which will come in handy as you try and attempt the quests thereafter.

After the quests, you can choose to stay in the area rather than head back to Astera so that you can explore.

Expeditions are a great way to fast travel to a certain area. You can do that through Astera and hunt Monsters. However, remember that Monsters only stay in a certain area for a short amount of time during Expeditions, so you need to make sure that you hunt them before they leave the area.

How to Play Multiplayer Expeditions

In order to play co-op with your friends, you can try to team up with your friends and then do a quest together. After you have finished the quest, you can choose to return to the camp rather than the hub. This will then allow you choose a destination that you want to return to. Talk to each other and pick the same destination so that you are able to begin your Expedition and explore the area for your benefit.

The second method can be done using an SOS flare. Join a quest and have all of your friends on the quest board. Then send out a flare and they will get a notification to join and come help you out. Just make sure that the Expedition is unlocked for all of your friends before you send out the flare, otherwise, your friends will not be able to join in with you.
