Modern Warfare Crossplay Up And Working For PS4, Xbox One, PC

Taylor Kurosaki, Infinity Ward’s narrative director, announced today on Twitter that Modern Warfare crossplay is up and working for all of the game’s platforms. This includes the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Kurosaki’s announcement came as a response to a tweet from a Call of Duty fan who asked him about it.

Crossplay has always bee a sticky situation for many developers and their publishers, with a great deal of debate between the three gaming giants of Microsoft, SOny, and Nintendo over the abillity to play games across platforms.

While the solution is simple for many developers and fans, who would love to have their fans be able to play with one another no matter the platform, the past few years have been marked with some tension from Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo over the issue of cross-platform play.

However, the Modern Warfare crossplay announcement being up and running for all three of the game’s consoles brings a good amount of hope to the argument. However, that mainly depends on one particular participant: Sony.

Sony has repeatedly refused overtures from both Microsoft and Nintendo to allow cross-platform play in its games, giving various excuses like wanting to protect its younger fanbase and claiming that they don’t need it because the Playstation is the best.

While a few games with somewhat niche audiences currently have cross-platform play capabilities such as Fortnite and Rocket League, Call of Duty would be another matter entirely, especially since it’s one of gaming’s biggest franchises.

Hopefully Modern Warfare crossplay will help to bolster the game’s multiplayer, though we can’t know what exactly it will do until it releases. You’ll be able to pick up Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC when the game releases on October 25. In the meantime, keep up with other developments here with us.
