Nvidia has been pushing Real-Time Ray Tracing for its RTX GPUs, however, reports suggest that in its current state games aren’t able to keep a stable 60 FPS with ray tracing on. Metro Exodus is one of the games that supports Real-Time Ray Tracing and even this game runs at around 40 FPS at 1080p.

PCGamesHardware got the chance to play the Metro Exodus RTX demo and noted that the game was unable to hit a steady 60 FPS mark on RTX 2080 Ti with real-time ray tracing on.

However, this loss in FPS wasn’t for nothing as the site notes that playing Metro Exodus with RTX on makes the game look much more realistic with realistic light transitions and more.

the entire scene also has a much more authentic effect due to the soft, realistic light transitions, subtle-realistic color transfers and their dynamics as well as the subtle illumination and shading of small details (Global lighting and ambient occlusion are basically closely related and fundamentally similar the respective counterpart of the other technique, which most likely makes the calculation of both effects together relatively efficient)

This is quite disappointing that games like Battlefield V and Metro Exodus aren’t able to run at 60 FPS with RTX on given that Nvidia has been boasting that the upcoming RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 2080 and RTX 2070 are capable of running this feature smoothly.

However, while the loss in performance is disappointing but these games are still in development and Battlefield V will not feature RTX at launch and will be added at a later date.

This indicates that the developers like DICE, Eidos Montreal and 4A Games are still optimizing the RTX feature for their games.

Also, the RTX feature will not be forced on the PC version of the game as 4A Games has confirmed that they will include the switch to turn off the RTX in Metro Exodus.

Furthermore, the developers have confirmed that Metro Exodus will feature “Far Cry” like bandit camps.

Approaching a bandit outpost in the wilderness feels a little like taking on a Far Cry outpost, but with the added benefit of all of Metro’s underlying systems and detailed presentation.

Metro Exodus is a first-person action survival game in development at 4A Games and is scheduled to launch on February 22, 2019, for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
