Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Rumored For PS5 In Holiday 2021

Following the critical acclaim release of the original last year, Insomniac Games was strongly speculated to have started work on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Those speculations have now started gaining strength.

While speaking on the latest Kinda Funny Gamecast earlier today, co-host Imran Khan claimed that he “knows too much” about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to be making mere speculations. As far as he’s concerned, the web-crawler will be returning to PlayStation 5 in another installment around the holiday season of 2021. While no evidence was presented, Khan has served as a former senior editor at Game Informer. Hence, his words carry worth.

I know too much about [Marvel’s Spider-Man 2], so I can’t speculate too much. I think a Spider-Man 2 will come sooner than we think.

Earlier this year, Insomniac Games posted job listings for a PlayStation exclusive game. The secretive project was undoubtedly for PlayStation 5 seeing how the next-generation is just around the corner and Sony would want Insomniac Games to be making a-listers for the next-generation platform rather than the existing one. Hence, it was pretty easy to say that the developer was working on anything but Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

It would be extremely unlikely and surprising if Insomniac Games was working on something entirely new at this point. Marvel’s Spider-Man was a critical success in every way possible. It became the fastest selling superhero game in history, a goal that was achieved in just three months. It also became one of the best selling PlayStation 4 games in history, counting more than 13.2 million copies sold worldwide (physical and digital) to date.

In fact, Sony would have wanted Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to be a launch title for PlayStation 5. Unfortunately, with the original releasing just last year, Insomniac Games was never going to have enough time to pump a sequel so fast. Even now, many believe that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will release for PlayStation 5 somewhere in 2022 based on a three-year development cycle.

Sony is set to launch PlayStation 5 in the holiday season of 2020. Besides Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Sony is strongly speculated to have commissioned work on God of War 2 and Horizon: Zero Dawn 2 as well. Those sequels are also natural for the new next-generation console.

For those who have still not played the original, Marvel’s Spider-Man can be purchased now on PlayStation 4. It’s also the best time to do so when seeing at all of the shopping discounts currently available due to the festive season.
