Madden NFL 25 won’t be releasing on the Wii U, EA has confirmed. They confirmed it in a statement made to Nintendo World Report:
“We will not be releasing a Wii U version of Madden NFL in 2013. However, we have a strong partnership with Nintendo and will continue to evaluate opportunities for delivering additional Madden NFL products for Nintendo fans in the future.”
Madden 13 was released on the Wii and Wii U in 2012. This will be the first time since 1991 that Madden won’t be making an appearance on any of the Nintendo consoles.
EA so far has not mentioned any reason as to why they decided to discontinue the Madden series on Nintendo platforms. However, one can safely assume that the main reason behind are the poor sale numbers of the Wii U. Even Nintendo itself is severely disappointed by the performance of their own console.
Certainly this is bad news for the console. Madden is a big deal and for EA to snub Nintendo shows what EA feels about Wii U’s prospects in the future.
Madden NFL 25 is set to be released on the 27th of August. Currently, the game is announced for the PS3 and Xbox 360 only.
