Madden NFL 19 Defensive Playbooks Guide

Since the new Madden game is out, and strategy in American Football is as important as it is to execute the plays properly. Both offensive and defensive playbooks play off of one another and you will need to have playbooks for both in order to be effective.

Our Madden NFL 19 Defensive Playbooks Guide will tell you all about the playbooks which are perfect for defense. In total, there will be 5 playbooks which are used by people of different play styles for maximum effect.

Madden NFL 19 Defensive Playbooks

Although all playbooks in the game have one thing or another going for them, there are 5 which are far above the rest and they will be good for most of the players in the game.

Try to play a few games with all of them to see which one is the best for you.

New England Patriots

The 4-3 formation is still one of the best you can have. There are also a few other variations such as 3-4 and you can send blitzes from all of the different formations. Patriots are perhaps still the most complex and versatile team in the game and it shows in their playbook, whether its offense or defense.

4-4 Monster Green is a great defensive setup as it doesn’t leave your backline exposed no matter how aggressive you play. The Big Nickel: Cover 6 Invert is also like the 4-3 formation containing zones of fantastic plays across the field.

Detroit Lions

The Detroit defense this year is an absolute beast. In essence, it is quite similar to the NEP setups. You have a lot of different variations with a 4-3 and 3-4. The difference is that you will also have a lot of dollar action with this playbook which you will not with the Patriots.

The Nickel: Cover Sky 3 is another great formation for completely controlling the midfield. It is perfect for deep corner plays. Big Nickel: SS Blitz 3 allows you to cornerback down the line of scrimmage before the snap happens. This is effective for quick plays.

Kansas City Chiefs

The 3-3-5 is the formation that has shown to work in certain situations but not every time. This is a decent playbook that could work with certain styles but is not completely overpowered as the previous 2 in this Guide are. Try to experiment with this playbook to see if it works for you. Otherwise, stick to something else.

Cincinnati Bengals

This playbook is quite similar to the one that Kansas City Chiefs have. Once again, only use this if you find out that it works for you as there are better playbooks for use. They offer both 4-3 and 3-3-5 formations so you will be able to diversify your plays a little bit with this playbook. It also has a tiny bit of dollar so you will be able to have some dollar action if you want.

Carolina Panthers

This playbook has a 4-3 formation which has a lot of dime and dollar as well as having the 5-2 which can be used for a multitude of plays including stopping a run. Of course, it still pales in comparison to the NEP and the Lions so it is best if you only use this situationally unless you are able to find a way to make it work.

Jacksonville Jaguars

This playbook mostly has the 4-3 scheme and thus is perfect for those who prefer this playstyle. The Jaguars have one of the best defenses in the game, and the default for them is the 4-3: Free Fire 3. This formation has several great blitz plays and is great to counter your opponent’s plays from the middle.

The 4-3 Corner Blitz 3 is great if you like to manually play either of the outside linebackers. 46: Rush Outside will suit you if you are looking to stop quick runs from the middle.
