Madden NFL 18 MUT Squads

What is MUT Squads?

MUT Squads is a new game mode introduced in Madden NFL 18. It is a match in which three players team up together to play against another three human players’ team. Each player gets to choose one of the three main role players who then bring their players from the MUT collection. This collectively makes it is a full 11 vs 11 player match with each player bringing in their own MUT Squad players.

Another unique feature is that the human players can take control of any position that they would like and play as them during the game. Talking about roles, there are three main roles that are selected for an MUT Squads game. They are Offensive Captain, Defensive Captain, and Head Coach.

Offensive Captain

This will be the captain for all the offensive part of your team. The offensive captain brings offensive players from his Madden 18 Ultimate Team collection. This is the most open role as you can choose any player on the field. As the offensive captain, you will also bring your offensive playbook. During the offense, you will have the responsibility to call plays and timeouts. If you have the best offensive players in your Ultimate Team, then you must choose this role

Defense Captain

This is the captain responsible for all the defensive players for the team. Defense Captain brings his Ultimate Team defense players to the game and his defensive playbook. Defensive captains can also control any player on the field except quarterbacks and kickers. As the defensive captain, you will call defensive plays and timeouts when the defense is on. We recommend that if you have the best defensive lineup in your Ultimate Team, then you must go with this role for the MUT Squads.

Head Coach

Head Coach is more of a managing role rather than playing the role. Although they can control players on the field it has some limitations. Just like Defense Captains, Head Coach cannot control Quarterbacks and kickers. As Head Coach, you will bring in the Stadium, head coach card, and team uniforms and he is responsible for decisions on the penalties. Anyone can be a Head Coach, as it does not require a strong lineup in the Ultimate Team.

Now that we know about the roles, let us look at some of the tips and tricks that you must remember while playing the game.

Know your Role

When choosing a role, you must be very clear about the chosen role. Each of the three roles has their own unique playbooks and players. You must have a clear understanding of the role that you are choosing; otherwise, you will just end up falling behind other teams. Practice beforehand and get to know each role before jumping in the online sessions. In addition, you must have a good Ultimate Team player roster for the role that you want to play for.

Unbalanced teams are the main cause of losing matches. You must come to the match considering different options such as if you have to play with random players, they might have a very weak roster so you will end up with a team that is very strong on one role but totally fails in the other role. So know your roles and have a good Ultimate Team player roster for the desired role.

Communication is Key for Winning

In MUT Squads, inter-team communication is very important. Team members must be in constant communication with each other if they want to win. This is just like a real match and coordination is important for teams to win. Especially when a player is calling a play, other team players should know so that they can plan their play accordingly.

Communication is very important for the player back in the defense. He is so far back that he cannot see what is happening ahead at the offense side but as he is a defender, he needs his guard to be up. Therefore, it is up to the offensive player that he keeps the defensive captain what is happening at the frontline.

Never Leave your Route

Whether you are playing offensive or you are playing defensive, always run your pre-defined routes. This makes the match very easy to handle because each player will be helping each other out. If the Quarterback wants to throw the ball to the receiver but the receiver is off his route, then he will not be able to throw the ball in his grasp.

This is just one of the many things that can happen if the routes are not followed so you must always follow the set routes no matter which role you are playing. Defense position can never take a risk of going off the course as if they go off their route, it might lead to a touchdown and causing you to lose the match.
