Hideo Kojima has confirmed FOB like elements for Death Stranding. For those who don’t know, Kojima’s Metal Gear Gear Sold 5: The Phantom Pain allowed players to create Forward Operation Bases.
Forward Operating Base is an online extension of Mother Base. It can be built once the player is able to gather enough resources. FOBs can significantly increase the player’s resource and expansion of Mother Base.
Speaking at Tribeca Festival, Hideo Kojima said that Death Stranding will feature elements similar to FOBs from MGS5. Whether FOBs like elements are going to be a part of Death Stranding’s multiplayer or story mode remains to be seen.
Some of the other details are pretty interesting as well. Death Stranding deals with anti-war and anti-nuclear themes. Speaking about the genre of the game, Kojima said:
It’s an action game, an open world action game. But it’s really new it’s something new. There’s so many things happening in the real world, America and Europe, everything is actually connected by the internet.
There is a feature in the game that allows you to manipulate the camera. Norman Reedus, who was also present at Tribeca, stated that there are violent elements in the game but Death Stranding isn’t a straight-up killing game.
However, Norman’s character will have “many toys” to kill stuff. Moreover, there is free roam in the game and the player can travel wherever he wants. But free roam won’t progress the story.
An odd implication came from a statement from Hideo Kojima. He stated that his vision for the game will not change based on marketing feedback. The statement implies that there might be some differences between the development and PR teams. Of course, it is just conjectured on our part at the moment.
