Intel i9-9900K Overclocked To 6.8 GHz On All Cores Using Asus Hero Motherboard And LN2

The Intel i9-9900K has been announced and it is the top of the line SKU that Intel has to offer right now. One of the major selling points of the CPU  is that it comes with 8 cores and 16 threads. Other than that it features a soldered TIM. This makes overclocker much easier.

Steponz talked about this feature and he mentioned that now overclockers only need to worry about one place where the thermal paste could fail. He also mentioned that this saves a lot of time. He also mentioned that he was able to get the Intel i9-9900K to 6.8 GHz using LN2 cooling which is very impressive indeed.

He mentioned that this overclock was not on a single core but across the board. An Asus Hero motherboard was used in order to get to such a high overclock. It is also worth mentioning that everyday users are not going to be able to such a high overclock as you will need exotic cooling like LN2. Using traditional liquid cooling you will get to 5 GHz.

There have been some issues with the Intel i9-9900K testing and we saw that the performance of the AMD Ryzen 2700X was cripple so that the Intel i9-9900K would look better. That makes little sense keeping in mind that Intel has the edge in gaming. Intel also has the higher clock speed out of the box, so it really did not have to do this.

Intel, as well as the company that it hired for the tests, has got a lot of heat since the benchmarks were released. We did get an official response from the company behind the benchmarks and according to Principled Technologies, the benchmarks were not misleading. The company also stated that it was working on some other tests and that the document would be updated according to the new findings.

Intel also responded to GamersNexus regarding the matter and the following is what it had to say in this regard:

We are deeply appreciative of the work of the reviewer community and expect that over the coming weeks additional testing will continue to show that the 9th Gen Intel Core i9-9900K is the world’s best gaming processor.Principled Technologies conducted this initial testing using systems running in spec, configured to show CPU performance and has published the configurations used. The data is consistent with what we have seen in our labs, and we look forward to seeing the results from additional third-party testing in the coming weeks.

While the Intel i9-9900K is market as the best gaming processor on the market. The price point is pretty high compared to the competition. Keeping that in mind that is going to be a hard sell for Intel as compared to the competition.

Let us know what you think about the Intel i9-9900K and whether or not you are interested in getting one of these chips.
