Intel i9-7900X Benchmarks Reveal The Overclocking Headroom It Has To Offer

The Intel i9-7900X in one of the upcoming Skylake-X CPUs that has 10 cores and 20 threads. The CPU is expected to cost $999 and here we have some Intel i9-7900X benchmarks to give you an idea regarding what kind of performance the processor has to offer.

Remember that these are leaked benchmarks and we do not know when these were recorded so the final product could have better performance. The CPU was tested with an EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW graphics card and was overclocked to 4.7 GHz as well. The Noctua NH-D15S was used for CPU cooling.

Taking a look at Cinebench, the CPU scored 2187 points out of the box and 2488 points when overclocked. The Intel i9-7900X benchmarks reveal that there is ample headroom for overclocking. Moving on to gaming benchmarks we saw that the CPU managed to run Hitman at 1440p at 106.6 FPS.

Intel i9-7900X benchmarks reveal that overclocking the CPU did give us a bit of a boost in terms of frames and when the CPU was overclocked to 4.7 GHz Hitman ran at 111 FPS. It is also interesting to note that the Ryzen 5 1600 has 6 cores and 12 threads and it managed to push 96 FPS.

The Ryzen 5 1600 also cost a fraction of what you are paying for the Intel i9-7900X. Then again it is pretty obvious that you will not need more than 4 cores and 8 threads for gaming, at least not for a few more years. So these CPUs will with these extra cores are not for gaming and will be for enthusiasts and content creators.

The price of the Intel i9-7900X is a bit off, in terms of price to performance I would say that Ryzen is better value for money but we will have to see what kind of performance these Intel Skylake-X chips will have to offer when they hit the market.

let us know what you think about these Intel i9-7900X benchmarks and whether or not you are interested in buying an Intel Skylake-X chip.
