Insomniac Games Files ‘Cloudless’ Trademark

Yesterday Insomniac Games was spotted to have filed a trademark for "Cloudless".

Yesterday Insomniac Games was spotted to have filed a trademark for “Cloudless”. The trademark application refers to a Service Mark, which is a bit different from the regular trademarks because they are there to secure a service, rather than the name of a product.

According to USPTO: “A service mark is a word, phrase, symbol or design, or a combination thereof, that identifies and distinguishes the source of a service rather than goods. The term “trademark” is often used to refer to both trademarks and service marks.”

In this case “Cloudless” could very well have something to do with Insomniac’s multiplayer Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive, which was revealed during E3 this past June. During the reveal, Insomniac mentioned that Sunset Overdrive will take advantage of Xbox One’s cloud services to collect data and update content frequently. It’s possible that the “Cloudless” service will allow consumers to access all of the game’s cloud features offline without the need of an internet connection.

Currently the studio is also busy working on the new Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus title for the PlayStation 3.
