Injustice 2 Guide to Frame Data, Combos, and Moves
When it comes to Injustice 2, the core mechanics of the game are similar to its predecessor with a few small changes. One of these changes is the introduction of the Gear System that rewards players with pieces of equipment that they can use to alter a character’s appearance, abilities, and stats. As for the story, it revolves around Batman’s attempts to restore the society following Superman’s regime.

Injustice 2 Guide – Tips for Beginners
There are three types of attacks/moves in the game i.e. Special Moves, Normal Moves, and Command Normal.
The Special Moves require you to be quick. These usually involve directional buttons followed by an attack. For instance, Superman’s Super Breath is a Special Move.
Attacks that involve single-button attacks are Normal Moves e.g. Medium Attack, Light Attack, etc.
Command Normal Moves
These moves involves both directional inputs and attack inputs at the same time. For instance, Forward + Medium Attack is a Command Normal Move.
Combos, Links, and Cancels
Combos let you hit an opponent multiple times following a successful attack. In Injustice 2, combos are comprised of multiple strings chained together. Strings, on the other hand, are 2-3 consecutive hits. For instance, Superman’s F + 2, 3 is a string that you can use in combos. However, in order to execute a perfect string, you need to be quick with the inputs. In order to give you a better understanding of cancels, do note that most of the Special Moves in the game are cancel-able from Normal Moves and strings.
For instance, you can cancel Superman’s F + 2, 3 into Super Breath – provided that you are fast enough! In order to execute this combo properly, you need to input the Super Breath before 3’s animation completes. It is important that you have a couple of go-to combos for every character in the game. In modern fighting games, combos are important when it comes to dishing out damage so take out some time to learn about them.
Understanding Frame Data and Frame Traps
Most of the modern fighting games run at 60 FPS with 1 frame equal to 1/60th of a second – Injustice 2 is no different. Each move in the game has three types of frames i.e. Start-Up Frames, Active Frames, and the Recovery Frames. When you combine all these frames, you get the total amount of time required for a move to complete – ignoring the animation cancelling at this point.
For instance, if a move has 5 Start-Up Frames, 5 Recovery Frames, and 5 Active Frames; it is a 15 frame moves and it will take 15/60th of a second to complete.
Frame Advantage and Disadvantage
After connecting an attack, you must exhaust Active Frames and Recovery Frames before the next attack. Frame Advantage is the advantage for the player who can act faster than his/her opponent. A Frame Advantage of +4 means that a player can land an attack 4 frames earlier than his/her opponent and vice versa for -4 frame disadvantage. It is important to note that the Frame Advantage is expressed differently on hit and on block.
On hit, every attack produces more Frame Advantage as compared to block. Now that we have discussed frames, let us discuss Frame Traps.
What are Frame Traps?
If you want to Frame Trap your opponent, you need to leave a small window – usually of 3-4 frames – from one positive on-block move to the next move. This will bait your opponent into mashing a button, allowing you to punish it before your opponent’s move enters the Recovery Frames.
For instance, you hit a move with 5 Start-Up Frames which is a +2 on-block and try to Frame Trap with another move with 6 Start-Up Frames. If your opponent blocks the first move and attacks after the first move has completely recovered and the second move has landed. However, do note that your opponent can avoid getting hit by your second move by simply being patient and blocking it.
