HTC Vive Eclipse, A New VR Product has its Details Leaked

Apparently, Virtual reality market will be getting a new HTC Vive variant by the name of HTC Vive eclipse. The product trademark has been spotted.

There have been leaks of a new HTC Vive headset. This comes as a surprise since 2017 is nearing its end, and HTC and Google have limited time to release their standalone headsets. This came from New Zealand, as HTC applied for a trademark name ‘Vive Eclipse’.

Originally it was theorized as the name was intended for the upcoming headset at Google I/O 2017 developers conference. Because Neither HTC nor Lenovo headset were named at that time. Only concepts and silhouettes.

The New Zealand Intellectual Property Office published a summary of trademark application, that showed a filing and submission initiated by HTC on 6th of October. Is specifically mentions Vive Eclipse as a ‘head mounted display for computer simulated reality’ and ‘motion tracking sensors’ handheld computer simulated reality controllers’

It’s still unclear that what Vive Eclipse and Vive Focus really are. Last month Lets Go Digital noticed a European and US trademark application for Vive Focus by HTC. Now the same website has picked up on this new application for Vive Eclipse.

The contents clearly specify that it’s another VR device, perhaps not independently powered, perhaps to work with an HTC smart phone. There are many possibilities to this and here we were thinking that HTC Vive was the only product they had in the lineup.

It can also be a possibility that HTC Vive Focus is for the European and US markets while Vive Eclipse will be revealed for the New Zealand and Australia. Because splitting the names for different geographies is a common targeting practice used by the marketing teams, behind these technological products.

HTC Vive is a powerful independent product with one of a kind VR experience that’s different from PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift. Until its confirmed and revealed that Vive Eclipse and Focus are actual products stay tuned for more updates here on SegmentNext.
