How to Build a Fish Pond in Stardew Valley

To build a pond in Stardew Valley, you will need the following material/items:

  • 200 Stones
  • 5,000 Gold Pieces
  • 5 Seaweed
  • 5 Green Algae

You can get the gold by strolling through mines, selling crops and the fishes, or completing tasks given to you by characters in the game.

You will find the stones in the mine, while the seaweed and algae can be obtained while fishing.

Once you’ve everything, head to the Carpenter’s Shop and talk to Robin here. Selec Fish Pond from the options Construct Farm Buildings and select for a location where you want the fish pond to be built.

I’d advise you to build this near your doorstep. Once you’re done, Robin will start working from the next morning and you will have your fish pond ready in 3 days, while it will occupy the space of a 5×5 tile.

Fish Pond Capacity
In the start, the fish pond will have 3 slots, and you will need to expand this number. Once a fish pond is full, there will be an exclamation mark on the top, click on it to know what you have to do to keep the fish happy.

Completing this fish task will allow you to increase the capacity of your fish pond.

Breeding Fish
Once the capacity is increased, you do not need to increase it, since if the pond has 2 or more fish of the same type, they’ll breed to increase the population.

So, in order to breed your fish, make sure you have 2 or more of the same type of fish in the same pond to have them breed and increase the population.

You will even encounter roe based on the species of fish that you kept in the pond, you can collect this roe in a preserves jar to turn it into aged roe.

Legendary fish might not be happy being in a pond with a smaller capacity. You should also keep your fish species separated as they aren’t all that okay with the idea of fish from other species populating the fish pond, which is why you need separate fish ponds for multiple fish species to expand your Fish Farm
