Halo 5 Will Use Design Cues in HUDs To Differentiate Between Characters

Halo 5 players will notice subtle design cues in HUDs, according to 343 Industries. This will make it easier for players to differentiate between different characters in the game.

Most of the time, HUDs for characters are the same and one can not tell the difference at all. 343 adding different designs will add more to the overall experience of Halo 5: Guardians.

Speaking about the game on Halo Waypoint, 343 said that these design cues in each HUD are painstakingly created:

Each character’s HUD has been painstakingly designed by our artists to reflect the visual language of that particular Spartan. So Locke’s HUD has aggressive lines that follow the curvature of his visor while Linda’s enhanced optics are represented in muted tones that reflect her armor palette.

It’s a welcomed addition and shows how Halo’s campaign is evolving. While developers wanted to make sure players know the difference, they also made sure players know that these characters have similarities as well. Meaning you won’t have to learn new controls and abilities for each characters.

From a play perspective it was important to maintain a consistent set of core gameplay abilities between all characters. We don’t want players to need to re-learn controls when they move between teams or from character-to-character. While the core gameplay and controls remain the same, each character has a unique set of starting Loadout weapons.
