If you are racing fan, then it would be a surprise if you say that you haven’t played or heard about Codemasters’ Grid.
Original ‘Grid’ was released back in 2008, and it managed to secure a respectable spot before the eyes of gamers and critics alike. It offered a unique racing experience and a healthy multiplayer. While Codemasters did a good job with the original game, everyone is hyped about its sequel, Grid 2.
The game has just been released in North America and Europe, and I think if you have landed this page, you must have got it already. You must be looking for a solution of your problem (bug/crash/error) related to Grid 2, right? If that’s the case, you can refer to the following troubleshooting guide.
#1 Grid 2 – Resolution Fix
Well, if you want to set the visual settings first before you play even a single race, there is a way for you. You can use the config file to change the settings like resolution etc. The configuration file can be found in /My Documents/My games/Grid 2/hardwaresettings/hardware_settings_config.xml for Windows 7 users.
#2 Grid – Can’t Get Past the Intro Level
If you are experiencing this issue, you should try linking your Codemasters’ account to Steam. This should help you login successfully and proceed further.
#3 Grid 2 – Controller Save Settings Fix
The bug was there is Dirt 3 and it seems that it’s also present in Grid 2. Anyway, if you want your button configuration to be saved and not lost after you restart the game, you can follow this link for a fix that may work out for you.
#4 Grid 2 – FPS Problem Fix
Grid 2 goes hard on GPUs so if you are using outdated drivers, it may be the obvious cause. I was hoping that both the major manufacturers (AMD and Nvidia) will release dedicated drivers for Grid 2 but that hasn’t happened yet.
Anyhow, if you are using old drivers, make sure that you update them to boost the performance. Even if your machine is well qualified to run the game, try lowering GFX settings or visual effects as they sometimes tend to eat more resources than normal.
If you have any applications running (not being used) in the background, shut them down and see if the game works better.
#5 Grid 2 – Long Loading Time
Grid 2 can take up to 1 minute to load a race so it’s not abnormal. If you are experiencing loading times even more than that, you can try defragmenting your hard drive to improve the loading times. Long loading times can also occur due to slow reading of your CD drive if you are using a disk to run the game.
#6 Grid 2 – Performance Boost for Haswell Technology
If you are using the haswell technology by intel, you should run the game using the “grid2.avx.exe” file than grid2.exe one. This should give you a slight performance boost.
#7 Grid 2 – Game Crashes While Loading
If you are experiencing random crashes while loading the game, you can try the following workaround:
- In Documents, go to Documents\my games\GRID 2\hardwaresettings.
- You should look for the file named hardware_settings_config.xml.
- Open the file in a text editor and look for the line:
directx forcedx9=”false”
Once, you find it, you should change it as follows:
directx forcedx9=”true”
Save the changes and run the game again.
#8 Grid 2 – Black Screen Issue Fix
You can try the workaround mentioned in #7 to fix the issue.
#9 Grid 2 – World Series Racing Stuck at the Loading Screen
If your loading screen is stuck for a very long time and nothing has worked for you, I will recommend a fresh install. Re-installation won’t affect your save files and you can continue from where you left.
#10 Grid 2 – PSN VIP Pass Not Valid
The issue has been noted down by the developer and they are collaborating with Sony to fix it as soon as possible. It may well be fixed with the next PSN update or sooner so you need to wait a bit.
#11 Grid 2 – Lag/Stuttering Fix
Like other Codemasters games, you feel lag or stutter even on meeting the recommended requirements of the game. As a quick fix, you should create an empty text file and name it same as the replay file with the same extension. The replay folder can be found in Games\Steam\steamapps\common\grid 2. You should replace the newly created text with the old replay file you find in the replay folder. Make the file ‘read only’ and this may fix the problem for you as it did in the previous F1 games.
