God of War Will Have 5 More Games According To Cory Barlog

God of War had undeniably the most successful release the franchise has ever seen and it could easily be one of Sony’s biggest exclusive titles ever. As the “first playthrough craze” is slowing down, we learn that there are five more games in store for the future. Hyped yet?

Cory Barlog, God of War director, revealed to Kotaku that he has 5 more titles for God of War “mapped out in his head”. The first part of the new God of War saga took 5 years to finish, however, Barlog is optimistic that it won’t take 25 years to see the end of the series. In his interview, he states:

I think this one—a big portion of the five years was, we had to start from scratch. We had a core engine but we really redid a lot of stuff. The previous God of War games, when we went from God of War 1 to God of War 2, the core engine was there.

On this one, everything really needed to be redone, because we just had torn the engine apart in so many different ways that when we finally brought the team together, everyone realized, ‘OK, this is not where it needs to be.’ So even when you see E3 2016, the rendering engine wasn’t there, the lighting engine was half-there, the atmospheric engine was half-there.
What we can keep from his statement is that the engine and the technology for making a new title are there and hopefully it won’t be long before we see a sequel getting revealed.
Furthermore, Barlog took the blame for the game’s small text and has also revealed that the menus were created only 8 weeks before its release. This gives us some sense as to how little time it takes for Santa Monica developers to put things together and create something beautiful.
