Gearbox Producer Says Borderlands 3 Doesn’t Exist Yet

Borderlands is among the top new IPs to come out of last generation of consoles. Players on the Xbox One and PS4 will also be able experience the series in the form of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.

However, everyone is eager to know about the future of Borderlands. Where do we go from here? When will we see the next game?

Gearbox understands what the fans want and they never denied the possibility of another game. They have plenty of ideas for Borderlands 3 and want to build on the foundation of previous games.

Speaking in an interview, GearBox producer James Lopez talked about what the game could be:

We wrote a really long checklist at the end of [Borderlands 2] because we go from this idea that vaults are only on Pandora to the idea that the vaults could be anywhere and there’s lots of them. I think that sets a really strong expectation for what the player will be doing. We’ve got all these characters that are very strong and very connected. Some of them were vault hunters, some of them could be vault hunters.

Developers want to make sure they take their time to bring the best possible experience to the players. They are exploring different ideas so it may take a while before an official reveal. At least we know that the game is being worked on.

Lopez also talked about the playable characters and says Borderlands 3 is just an idea, as a game doesn’t exist yet.

They all don’t have to be brawny, they don’t even have to be particularly high tech. What is the idea of what a vault hunter is? That’s something we’re really trying to wrap our head around because if we don’t, we run the risk of having something that’s just stagnant. These are all just ideas right now, Borderlands 3 is a game that doesn’t even exist yet

Borderlands 3 is in safe hands and we know GearBox won’t disappoint. We’ll just have to be patient and wait for its eventual release. What would you like to see in the next Borderlands game? Let us know in the comments below.
