Gearbox Believes That Epic Games Store Was Key In Luring New Players To Borderlands 3

Senior Gearbox Software producer Anthony Nicholson highlighted the key role Epic Games played in boosting the Borderlands 3 sales and players.

Borderlands 3 has not even been in the market for 1 month, but that has not prevented it from getting a significant amount of copies sold on all the platforms on which it is available. One of them is PC through the Epic Games Store, which was not only key to its distribution but also served to attract a lot of new players. During an interview with PC Games Insider, senior Gearbox Software producer Anthony Nicholson highlighted the key role Epic Games played in boosting Borderlands 3. According to the producer, the success of the new installment is due to a combination of the emotion of the long-running fans of the series and the new players.
The appetite amongst fans was definitely there, but Epic have been great partners and have done a lot to help us reach new players as well. So I’d say it’s a combination of everything that’s culminated in the success we’re seeing.
Recently, Fortnite had an event in collaboration with the Borderlands franchise, thanks to which there were several references to it, among which Psycho’s skin stood out. This, coupled with the presence of Borderlands 3 on PC only through the Epic Games Store, surely caused more than one user to enter the world of the Vault Hunters. Another factor that has been essential in the development of the franchise over the years is the enthusiasm of the fans that keep the series alive, according to the producer, and says they are even very enthusiastic since they invite more people to Try the series.
It’s both staggering and humbling and drives us to do what we do the best we can for those fans. That community has definitely kept enthusiasm for the franchise alive, and that’s likely encouraged more and more people to give the series a try. Add that to all the work our devs and marketing teams did over the last six months to get the game in front of so many people, and thankfully I think it added up to there just being a lot more Borderlands fans out there now.
Shortly after the premiere of Borderlands 3, Gearbox Software reported that the Epic Games Store had also been key in the initial sales. This news is surely excellent considering that this month will mark the 10th anniversary of the Gearbox Software series. To celebrate this event with fans, the developer launched a 5-week event in Borderlands 3, which users can take advantage of to get many items.
Here is the full schedule for Borderlands’ 10-year anniversary:
  • Week 1 (October 1-7): Bonus Boss Loot!
  • Week 2 (October 8-14): Rare Spawn Hunt!
  • Week 3 (October 15-21): Show Me the Eridium!
  • Week 4 (October 22-28): Mayhem on Twitch!
  • Week 5 (October 29 – November 4): Spooky Surprise!
I remind you that Borderlands 3 is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (via Epic Games Store).
