Gameplay Of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Takes Its Inspiration From Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

In a recent interview with the Senior Producer for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Marc Alexis-Cote a great many things were discussed. However, among all of those details revealed and discussed what really caught our attention was when he acknowledged the fact that the gameplay of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey takes its inspiration from the Nintendo Wii version of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.

Alexis-Cote was asked the question that whether his work at Ubisoft was influenced by Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands for the Nintendo Wii? To which his response was positive and as most of us expected.

For those who might ask the concept of Assassin’s Creed already seems to be a rip-off and improved version of Prince of Persia, conceptually that is. Adding more to the irony is the fact that The Forgotten Sands for the Nintendo Wii was actually one of the games Marc Alexis-Cote worked on.

So it seems to reason what asking this question was inevitable. The best part is that the answer he added really gives a big picture to the Assassin’s Creed fans.

The interview was conducted by Gadgets 360, whereupon asking Alexis-Cote said:

We created an exclusive game for the Wii, which was centered around the abilities of the Wiimote, recalling he further said. “All the abilities that we brought in augmented the gameplay, so I think I realized the importance of augmenting player abilities at that point.”

To him, this specific realization was something that helped him recreate the same skill tree and abilities but in an enhanced style, “augmenting the gameplay” as he says.

He further added:

I saw the importance of having something like that in a game such as Odyssey. I’m super happy with the breadth of the skill tree that we’ve been able to build, and how supportive it is of different play styles.

So while there is no Prince of Persia project in the works it is heartwarming to know that the soul of it still passes on in the form of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s gameplay.

Having said that let us hope that it does not ruin the true fun for the fans though.
