Future God of War Games Will Take Less Development Time: Cory Barlog

The new God of War game took five years to develop which is a long time even by AAA development standards. Sony games generally do take longer to develop for a number of reasons but God of War’s prolonged developed time is completely justified.

This wasn’t the God of War we knew since God of War 1, it was something completely new that required a new engine and gameplay design. It took developers a long time to first put every tool in order before starting to really work on God of War PS4.

However, according to Cory Barlog, future God of War games will take less time to develop. Speaking in a recent interview, Barlog stated they now have a base to work on, an engine, and gameplay design they are happy with it. Most of what we saw is going to be carried over to future God of War games with improvements here and there.

I think this one – a big portion of the five years was, we had to start from scratch. We had a core engine but we really redid a lot of stuff. The previous God of War games, when we went from God of War 1 to God of War 2, the core engine was there

God of War is now available on PS4 and PS4 Pro. It is critically acclaimed release and has become the most highly rated PS4 exclusive on Metacritic.

Since we are talking about future games, Cory Barlog has five more games planned in his head. The next game will probably release alongside PS5, a couple of years from now but we don’t know anything for sure.
