Nvidia has dominated the high-end GPU market and even though AMD is bringing the heat with Vega Nvidia is not going to let go of that lead at any cost. Nvidia announced that they would be selling updated Founders Edition GTX 1080 11Gbps at the GTX 1080 Ti launch event.
Reports claim that the upcoming Founders Edition GTX 1080 11Gbps GPUs that you can buy directly from Nvidia will be full GTX 1080 Ti GPUs in disguise that that where is a possibility that the GPU will be able to perform like the GTX 1080 Ti with a BIOS flash.
This news comes from Nvidia but the source would rather be anonymous for obvious reasons. This means that the specifications are almost identical and that the only difference is an the looks of the GPU. Seeing how the upcoming Founders Edition GTX 1080 11Gbps will be sold at a price cut, it is great value for money.
If these reports are indeed true then I see no reason why you should not get this GPU if you can afford it. It is obvious why Nvidia does not want this information to reach the general public as there would be no reason why people would by the big brother GTX 1080 Ti if this report is indeed true.
