Time to say Goodbye to social life folks, Fallout 4 is here. The game has been unlocked for many as we can see thousands of players already enjoying the game. The big question is, Is it optimized enough?

Although the game is struggling to maintain FPS on consoles, PC users haven’t been able to come up with much complaints yet especially performance related.

If you have come across an issue (error, crash or a bug), we have shortlisted the common problems users are facing with the possible fixes in Fallout 4. Feel free to browse trough it and if you have anything of your own to share, don’t hesitate!

To improve graphics and performance of the Fallout 4, don’t forget to check our Fallout 4 PC Tweaks Guide.

#1 Fallout 4 Crash Fix on Startup
There are a few things you can try to fix the notorious startup crash. First things first, you should make sure that your GPU drivers are up to date (both Nvidia and AMD).

If that doesn’t work, and you are using a VPN, try disabling as there have been some reports that VPNs are causing Fallout 4 to crash.

You can also try running the game in borderless window as it can also solve your problem. Some users have also reported that rolling back their driver version from beta to full has fixed the issue for them.

#2 Fallout 4 Crashes During Loading Screen
You should try the fixes mention in #1. Also, if you are running any third party applications in the background like Afterburner or any digital recording tool.

#3 Fallout 4 Potential Fix for AMD Crashes
Some users have reported that AMD crash can be avoided by rolling back the beta driver version to a full version. So if you are facing a crash too and nothing else has worked, I think it’s worth of a shot.

#4 Fallout 4 Performance Boost for Nvidia Users
Nvidia Streamer service can be a culprit. So if your PC is good enough and you are experiencing poor performance, try disabling Geforce experience to boost the performance. Needless to say that you should also have latest drivers for better experience.

#5 Fallout 4 – How to Fix Mouse Acceleration Issue
You will be able to locate Fallout4Prefs.ini file in your documents for Fallout 4. This is the config file you can use to tweak stuff.

Open it and find the command that says: iPresentInterval. Set it to 0 and also find the command that says: bForceIgnoreSmoothness. Setting it’s value to one should disable acceleration.

#6 Fallout 4 – How to Remove FPS Cap
If you are getting locked 30 FPS with V-sync enabled, try running the game in borderless window. Also, setting iPresentInterval command to 1 can even get you past 60 FPS.

#7 Fallout 4 Disk Write Error
Make sure that you have sufficient hard disk space free and that you are not using FAT file system somehow on your storage device.

#8 Fallout 4 Bugs
Well since Fallout 4 is a massive game, some bugs are inevitable. We haven’t heard of any game breaking bugs as of yet but if there are any, we will be updating them with time.

#9 Fallout 4 – No Input on the Menu
If your controller is plugged in along with your mouse and keyboard, unplug and you will be able to use your mouse and keyboard normally.

#10 Fallout 4 – How to Fix XAudio2_7.dll Module Crash
Seems like these is a beta patch for the game already available on Steam however, to apply it, you are going to need the following steps:

  • First, Log into Steam.
  • Right-click on Fallout 4 in your Library.
  • Select “Settings”, then “Betas” and a drop-down menu will appear; select the “beta – 1.1.30 Beta Update”.
  • Click “OK”, then wait a few minutes for Fallout 4 to update.
  • When the beta patching has finished, Fallout 4 should appear as “Fallout 4 [beta]” in your Library.

#11 Fallout 4 – Very Long Loading Times
For now, it is known that the game is facing long loading times on all the platforms. PC users however, can get the reduced loading times if they are using an SSD. The game takes 6-8 seconds to load while and HDD can take upto 40 seconds.

Bethesda Might fix it in future but for now, an SSD is the only solution right now.

#12 Fallout 4 – Game Crashes Every 15-20 Minutes
If none of the above mentioned fixes have worked for you, try the fix mentioned in #10. Just make sure that you have updated drivers and you aren’t running any third party applications in the background.

#13 Fallout 4 – No Sound In-game or Menu .dll Errors
Try running the directx setup in _CommonRedist DirectX Jun2010 folder should resolve the issue for you. These setups will also remove any other .dll related errors you are facing.

#14 Fallout 4 Settings Not Being Saved
You need to make sure that your Fallout4Prefs.ini is not set in Read-Only mode as it will prevent the program to write any changes you make in the file.

If nothing else works, delete the file and restart the game. This time a new file will be created and things should get back to normal.
