Everything We Know About Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Zombies Mode

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 releases this October for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC and with it comes a brand new Zombie adventure. The Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Zombies Mode is full of background story, beautiful graphics but doesn’t lack the classic, intense Call of Duty gunfights. Or does it?

This time, Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Zombies Mode is a completely new experience since its the game’s only source of PvE. Treyarch has released individual trailers for each of its maps so that we know beforehand what we are up against. It kind of takes away the story anticipation but it sure builds up the hype.

What is Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Zombies Mode?

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 doesn’t have a classic campaign but instead features a single-player Zombie mode that has some story-driven campaign elements to it. The  Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Zombies Mode will be spread among three maps with a different story and era each time. These are the maps-challenges:

  • IX, which is set in an ancient era gladiatorial arena
  • Voyage of Despair, set in a trans-Atlantic cruise ship
  • Blood of the Dead, which takes place in a prison

Each of the three maps has its own story. IX and Voyage of Despair both have the same characters as we see from their trailers. The Zombie outbreak is caused by some kind of ancient relic which, when assembled, creates a barrier and everyone out of that barrier turns into a zombie. The characters can jump from era to era by inhaling some kind of mysterious fume in a cave and the challenge begins.

In IX, the relic is assembled in the map arena where the four main characters are the gladiators (in a vision) and are put there to fight the zombified arena spectators.

In Voyage of Despair, the same four characters are in a cruise ship and try to steal the relic with a truly thought out scheme. The plan ends badly though when the relic is assembled once again and all the people on the ship apart from the main characters are once again zombies.

We don’t know much about Blood of the Dead yet. It seems to be set in a prison and inspired by Mob of the Dead, a fan-favorite Zombies map from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 that was set on Alcatraz. Four characters are present here as well, but the story behind this map is not revealed through its trailer.

All three  Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Zombies Mode maps have their own playstyle as it seems. While we are not yet able to get a glimpse of gameplay footage, it’s obvious that you won’t be handling the fights the classic way. In IX, you’ll most likely use spears, swords, axes, and shields in order to fight in the arena. In Voyage of Despair, the focus is shifted to revolvers while Blood of the Dead looks more modern so we expect it to be featuring guns, even though the trailer shows none.

The mode will itself have a custom mutation to change a variety of gameplay factors like zombie speed, health and much more. There will be 100 mutations available. Furthermore, there are Callings, which are limited time challenges and Zombie Rush. Furthermore, difficulty levels also make their comeback in Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Zombies Mode so that’s one more thing to look forward to.

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Zombies Mode will release as part of the base game along with the multiplayer modes and Blackout. It will be available on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC and Treyarch revealed that there will be more challenges implemented in this mode after the release of the game on October 12th. Black Ops 4 will be available on PC through Battle.Net along with Destiny 2.
