EA and Activision Have Grown by Almost $80bn Since Using Games-as-a-Service Model

A report from an analyst group has revealed that EA and Activision have grown double by almost $80 Billion since the introduction of games-as-a-service.

This report comes from DFC intelligence, revealing that EA has got an increase in its value from $4 billion to $33 billion since 2012. As for Activision Blizzard, their market value has increased from $10 billion to over $60 since 2012.

This rapid growth for Activision is mostly the result of live games like Destiny 2 and Overwatch. They are one of the most played games and always bring you back with something new inside. Other assets have also played a role in this growth. Games including Candy Crush Saga, Bubble Witch Saga and more. According to DFC, Activision’s digital profits increased rapidly since taking over assets like these.

As for EA, it’s not a surprise to know that this growth is a result of their live service sports games. These sports games include FIFA games, Madden, NHL, and NBA. Ultimate Team in each of these games have also brought additional revenues. Ultimate Team can be found in FIFA, UFC, and Hockey.

Other live services from EA include EA Origin, Origin Access, Battlefield Premium Pass, Pogo, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Star Wars Battlefront and Sims 4.

DFC reports also reveal that EA generated $2 billion alone from its live service games in fiscal 2018. During the same time, EA’s digital revenue grew by 31% while physical sales dropped by 17%.

This proves that the games-as-a-service model is very profitable and it’s just the beginning.

Despite a lot of criticism since Star Wars Battlefront 2, EA seems stubborn to use microtransactions in their video games. Patrick Soderlund has defended the Ultimate Team mode by saying that it’s choice and an optional mode. You can simply don’t play it if you want as there’s a lot of other content in the game.

FIFA 19 is now finally available and it’s better than ever with new gameplay mechanics. The game also consists of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in any FIFA game. A glitch has also been found in the career mode which allows you to get £1 Billion Transfer Budget.
