Bethesda Facing Dispute Over Elder Scrolls 6 Redfall Trademark

ZeniMax Media (the parent company of Bethesda) is now facing dispute by BookBreeze.com and author Jay Falconer over the Elder Scrolls 6 Redfall trademark.

Jay Falconer, the author of post-apocalyptic book series, is disputing over the Elder Scrolls 6 Redfall trademark filed by Bethesda last year. There’s no confirmation about the title name yet but if the rumors are true then the game could be delayed as late as 2021 because of the trademark dispute.

Things could have been better as Jay Falconer claims that he and his lawyer’s happily tried to make a deal when they saw ZeniMax Media ( Bethesda’s parent company) attempting to file for the Redfall trademark but were completely ignored. He said:

My lawyers made attempts to contact the gaming company to work out a simple licensing deal for them to use my Redfall name. They ignored me every time. Shame. Left me no choice. All could have been avoided. Just call my attorneys back.

This all has created a very weird scenario for ZeniMax as the final decision for the dispute will not come out at least by 2020. Because of this, the company won’t be allowed to use the Redfall name for their upcoming The Elder Scrolls 6 until the whole matter is resolved.

BookBreeze.com is the publisher of the post-apocalyptic novels series, which uses the name Redfall. It could turn out to be not a big of an issue considering the fact that the upcoming Elder Scrolls game is long away from launch.

The company won’t be able to use the name for early marketing purposes until the case is settled. However, if Bethesda plans to market the Elder Scrolls 6 before 2021 then they will have to either change the game’s subtitle or keep us guessing by just using “The Elder Scrolls 6” as the main title.

You can check out the trademark page here which currently enlists Redfall as facing opposition. Stay tuned to Segmentnext.com to know more about this matter.

There’s nothing that we know about the game except that short reveal trailer that we saw at E3 last year. It seems like we will not be hearing about the game anytime soon as Pete Hines says that it will take “a while from now and a really long while from now”.

With all of the above information in mind, we will have to wait for a long time before we get to play the latest installment in The Elder Scrolls franchise and maybe on next-gen consoles like Xbox Scarlett or PlayStation 5.
