Devil May Cry 5 Could Never Be God of War: Capcom

In a recent interview, the game director of DMC 5, Hideaki Itsuno said that CAPCOM never had any intentions of changing the game style into a narrative based title, like God Of War.

Now that is a U-turn because from what we remember, Hideki Kamiya, who has previously directed the original Devil May Cry, specifically added that this upcoming title Devil May Cry 5 could benefit from a narrative change similar to God Of War.

No, we have never thought of such a change. For us, the important thing is to focus on what our fans want. Consider that much of the feedback collected with DmC and Devil May Cry 4 were requests related to the number of environmental puzzles or “platform” phases. Many have asked us to reduce the number, and so we did in Devil May Cry 5.

Now being the game directors, it would suit them if they would consult each other on whether or not they actually wanted to bring in the change similar to God Of War because, on the other hand, Hideki Kamiya did say that CAPCOM wanted to drop the anime style hack ‘n’ slash.

They wanted to turn Devil May Cry 5 into a realistic cinematic action game. So what this suggests is that at some point God of War like changes did come up.

We all know that God Of War is a benchmark of its own, while Devil May Cry is awesome as an anime-style action game.

All in all, it does sound interesting but Devil May Cry should stick to its own identity and those who have seen the recently released Gamescom trailers know that Devil May Cry 5 is something else. Most of the DmC fans are happy that finally, the DmC is back.

According to Itsuno, they have made sure that this game is soul apart. He said that when people will play this game, and see Nero and Dante, they will have the feel they have been desperately waiting for.

My hope was that when people see Nero, and people see Dante doing really cool stuff on screen, that makes them feel like they’re the ones being cool and stylish.

Devil May Cry 5 is releasing early next year for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
