Destiny 2 Has Reportedly Been Encouraging Microtransactions Right Under Our Noses

Destiny 2 is a game that encourages players to grind for better gear and XP to increase their level, however, turns out that there is a hidden cooldown timer in the game that limits the amount of XP a player can earn once the player reaches a certain threshold.

According to Destiny 2 player, lbeLIEvel who posted two GIFs of his character earning XP for two Public events on two different planets just minutes apart. The GIFs reveal that the first public event gave the player a lot of XP compared to the second one.

According to the player, during his run at the public event, he had well rested bonus a Fireteam Medallion, and the Ghost shell with a 10% XP boost in the EDZ. Also, there are reports piling up on the subreddit highlighting this issue.

Why is this important you might ask? Well acquiring the XP is the only way to get your hands on Bright Engrams, which is Destiny 2’s version of loot boxes. The Bright Engrams can be bought with Silver an in-game currency that players can acquire with real-world money.

However, Bungie is yet to comment on the situation and this wouldn’t be the first time this happened this year and Star Wars Battlefront 2 was heavily criticized for having a cooldown timer for its arcade mode to limit the number of credits earned.

According to another player, this issue rendered the Clarion Call clan event useless as the game would take around 30 minutes after players had earned the double XP.

Essentially, the longer you play, the less XP that you get. The game tries to obfuscate this by showing the correct XP amount even though the XP bar barely increases at all. This “cooldown” makes the Clarion Call a literally pointless event since you’re probably only getting that bonus XP for like 20-30 minutes before the cooldown kicks in.

Destiny 2 is first-person action shooter developed by Bungie for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
