Kojima Continues To Tease Death Stranding, Reveals Two New Gameplay Images

No doubt there is a lot of mystery surrounding the highly anticipated Death Stranding. Yesterday, Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima was in a teasing mood when he posted two new images of Death Stranding’s gameplay on the PS4.

It might go down as one of the most mysterious games of all times. There is a lot of speculation about Death Stranding’s story and gameplay mechanics but not much is known at this point. Hideo Kojima, the genius behind Death Stranding, has been keeping the game under wraps mostly. But every now and then, Kojima takes to Twitter to give his fans an update on Death Stranding’s development progress or to simply tease and generate hype.

Yesterday evening, Hideo Kojima took to Twitter to give fans a little Death Stranding teaser by posting two photos of him playing the game.

If you’re wondering about what Kojima has written in his Tweet, he is simply saying that he is living a sort of “cicada-life” because he is unable to attend E3 2019 in Los Angles and the Wonder Festival in Shanghai right now. So he’s staying indoors, playing Death Stranding.

The screen images show what appears to be Sam Porter, Death Stranding’s main protagonist, standing in rocky terrain with a stream of water flowing nearby. Kojima has perhaps put a monochrome filter on the photos deliberately in order to not reveal too much about Death Stranding. Even though all of this is speculation at this point, it is likely this is one of the game’s transportation missions where Sam Porter has to bring something from one location to another in the game’s “United Cities of America”.

Death Stranding is almost finished now. As revealed earlier this week by Hideo Kojima’s Tweets, Death Stranding took less than three years to formulate and finish by Kojima Productions. This development span was shorter than Metal Gear Solid V Phantom Pain’s.

Earlier this week, Kojima also talked more about what genre Death Stranding will represent in a Tweet. According to Kojima, Death Stranding isn’t a stealth game nor a shooter game. But instead, it will fall under a whole new category called “action game/strand game (social strand system)”.

This is something we may have seen in the new Death Stranding release date reveal trailer. Strands might refer to connections made by people with each other. Likely why the game will be multiplayer.

It’s an open-world action game, but it’s really something new. There are so many things happening in the real world – in America, in Europe – everything is actually connected by the internet, but in a way, we’re not connected in the real world these days.
I’m putting that as a metaphor in the game. The player will have to reconnect the world in the game. You’re very alone, there’s solitude, but you’re trying to connect. The story and the gameplay, the keyword is ‘connection.’ There are so many things in-between, of course, but the key is a connection. I also threw in a really new idea. You’re connecting the game, and everyone is playing it together, and you’ll be connected, everyone will be connected together as well. I can’t say anything because Sony will be very unhappy. I don’t want to be disconnected from Sony.

This is what Kojima said on stage during a panel in New York back in April. It will be interesting to see how the game performs once it releases. It is also very likely we will continue to get more Death Stranding reveals after E3 2019.

Death Stranding is being developed by Kojima Productions and Sony Interactive Entertainment exclusively for PlayStation 4. Pre-orders for the game are now open with a November 8, 2019 release date.
