There are celebrity cameos everywhere in Death Stranding with the digitally scanned faces of various famous people giving several characters life. That’s on top of the unmissable Death Stranding appearances of Guillermo del Toro as Deadman, Nicolas Winding Refn as Heartman and Lindsay Wagner. Aside from those starring roles however there are ‘special appearances’ marked in the credits, a selection of notable celebs whose faces appear in the game.

Luden Fan-Geoff Keighley
Video Game Awards host Geoff Keighley is one of the first preppers you meet in Death Stranding. Known as the Ludens Fan, his love for Kojima runs through his interactions as he emails you about Luden’s figures and theories about the world.

Musician-Daichi Miura
Daichi Miura is a real-life Japanese singer and songwriter. He started life in a 1997 band called Folder, before going solo and releasing 7 albums and 22 singles as a solo artist. In Death Stranding he’ll give you a harmonica if you can deliver enough stuff to raise his relationship with you.

Conan-O-Brien-Talk Show Host

Edgar Wright-Film Director
Edgar Wright, film director behind Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and Baby Driver also makes an appearance in Death Stranding. Jordan Vogt-Roberts-Film Director
Known as the film director behind Kong: Skull Island, Jordan Vogt-Roberts has its own cameo in Death Stranding, lending a hand to the main character.

Hermen Hulst-Head of Playstation Worldwide Studios
Guerilla Games Managing Director Hermen Hulst makes an appearance in Death Stranding, game that has been developed by using the Decima Engine, which Hulst and his team created for Horizon: Zero Dawn. His character is “The Craftman”, and the discovery was shared in Guerrilla’s Twitter.

Hirokazu Hamamura-Print Media Publisher
Hirokazu Hamamura is the former editor-in-chief of popular Japanese gaming magazine, Famitsu. Currently, he’s the president and CEO of Enterbrain, a Japanese publisher and brand company of Kadokawa Future Publishing, which produces several magazines revolving around games and entertainment.

Hamamura appears as the Collector, an optional prepper and fan of retro games that you can find south of the Distribution Center South of Lake Knot City. His shelter is located at the opening of a cliff face graffitied with Famitsu’s Necky the Fox mascot, but you’ll need a ladder to reach it.

Sam Lake-Game Writer
Sam Lake is a writer who often works with Remedy Entertainment, a studio most known for Max Payne, Alan Wake, and the recently released Control. You might recognize his face since his likeness was used for the titular character of the first Max Payne.

Lake appears in Death Stranding as the Veteran Porter, who you have the option of connecting to the Chiral Network. You can find him northwest of the Timefall Farm during Episode 3.

Junji Ito-Manga Artist
Junji Ito is a famous and influential horror manga artist best known for his terrifying, nightmare-inducing art and writing. If you have never read his work before, then you should read Uzumaki or Tomie right now.

It is interesting to note that Ito was going to work with Kojima on Silent Hills during his final years at Konami, but the project was canceled before the collaboration could take place. Ito appears as the Engineer in the Central Region and is one of the many preppers you are required to connect to the Chiral Network.

Errolson Hugh – Fashion Designer
Errolson Hugh is a fashion designer behind the high-end Acronym clothing brand. His cameo represents the first time he has appeared in a video game, but not the first time he has been involved with a games-related project.

Hugh collaborated with Eidos Montreal in the past to create the jacket worn by Adam Jensen in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. You can find Hugh at the Weather Station, where he appears as UCA medic Alex Weatherstone.

Tommy Wirkola-Director
You will find the Dead Snow and Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters director lending his face to Phillip North, who runs the Centre North of Mountain Knot City. That is in the north, north west upper part of the map.

Manabu Makime-Novelist
The Novelist’s Son is just south of the Distribution Centre, in the flats on the other sides of the mountains. Despite the name he is actually Japanese novelist and long time Metal Gear fan Manabu Makime
