Cyberpunk 2077 Is More Ambitious Than The Witcher 3, Says CD Projekt Red Boss

CEO of CD Projekt Red stated the success of The Witcher 3 last year gives devs added amount of opportunity to be even more ambitious with Cyberpunk 2077.

We’ve been hearing a lot about Cyberpunk 2077 for a while now, but the game has been in development for a long while, and isn’t expected to be released too soon.

CD Projekt Red, the amazing team behind the critically acclaimed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt of last year, is in charge of developing the game.

In an interview with Game Industry, CEO of CD Projekt Red Marcin Iwinski stated that the massive success of The Witcher 3 last year gives the developers an added amount of resources and opportunity to be even more ambitious with the development of Cyberpunk 2077.

Iwinski stated that Cyberpunk 2077 will be “more ambitious on every single front, in the development and on the marketing side,” when compared to The Witcher 3, and will have a grander scale.

Iwinski stated that it’s never really the money for CD Projekt Red. The developer has quickly risen with their highly successful titles to become one of the best and most reliable studios in the world, and the CEO recognizes this fact.

“Yes, we deliver results, but we always explain to our investors that we have a long-term perspective. They shouldn’t expect us to annualise, or suddenly start releasing games just because there’s a business opportunity. Fundamentally, The Witcher 3 has proven that… and right now we have a lot of credit, so we should use that and take the time to make Cyberpunk something really meaningful for the whole industry. It has to reach the next quality bar, and I’m not talking just for us, but for the market.”

More importantly, Iwinski is not shy of letting everyone know of which models they take inspiration from. In the interview, he openly shares how Rockstar is one of their role models, and just like the developer’s high quality franchises like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, Iwinski wishes to make CD Projekt Red a developer that guarantees excellent titles.

Cyberpunk 2077 puts players into a grim and dark future in 2077 where advanced technologies have become both the “salvation and curse of humanity.” The game is expected to have mature content – something CD Projekt Red is notorious for, and also a non-linear storyline with branching pathways.

Cyberpunk 2077 is still in early development, so don’t expect the game to arrive any time before 2017. The platforms for the title have not been announced, but we’re expecting the usual suspects: Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
