Cities Skylines Errors, Crashes, Graphics, FPS, Black Screen, Tweaks and Fixes

Maxis might have been shut down but it doesn’t mean that we won’t be getting City building Simulators anymore.

Cities Skylines is one evidence and I am sure many fans of the genre must already be having a good time with the game.

However, if you are not that lucky and are stuck with an error, crash or a bug, following list can help you out as it addresses the common issues being faced by the game.

#1 Cities Skylines Poor FPS Performance Fix
If you are a laptop user and you are getting low frame rates and experiencing poor performance, you should make sure that your game is being run using the dedicated GPU instead of integrated GPU.

You can change settings using control panel of your GPU (Nvidia/AMD).

And if you are desktop user, you need to make sure that your GPU drivers are up to date. Some users have also reported that changing the compatibility mode for Cities Skylines fixes the issue.

#2 Cities Skylines Green Screen and Other Graphical Issues
Multiple users have reported that they are experiencing green screen especially on MAC. If that’s the case or you have similar graphics related anomalies, you can try out this fix.

#3 Cities Skylines Black Screen Fix
Black Screen with music in background usually means that there is a resolution problem. In order to fix it, you need to use the following line in the command parameters space via Steam:

-screen-height 400 -screen-width 800

Now the whole path will look something like this.

C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\STEAM\STEAMAPPS\COMMON\Cities Skylines\Cities.exe” -screen-height 400 -screen-width 800

If that doesn’t solve the problem, you should try fix #1. You can also try running the game in windowed mode.

#4 Cities Skylines Unable to Start/Load City
There have been reports that some players aren’t able to start or load a city. If that’s the case, try running the game as admin. If you haven’t progress far, you can try starting a new game.

#5 Cities Skylines Missing Executable File Error
64-bit OS is the requirement to run the game and that’s not a problem, you should try verifying your game files so that the missing file can be downloaded.

#6 Cities Skylines Crashes with Unknown Error
The error most probably is due to unsupported OS. You need to have a 64-bit OS to run the game. If you don’t, it’s time to upgrade.

#7 Cities Skylines Borderless Windowed Mode
If you want a borderless window, you need to set the following parameter in the launch options via Steam:

#8 Cities Skylines Game Crashes on MAC
If you are a MAC user and your game is crashing, you need to disable Steam Overlay.

#9 Cities Skylines Game Does Not Start on MAC
There are a few things you can try. First, try disabling Steam Overlay. If that doesn’t work, you should make sure that you are not using any screen capture applications.

#10 Cities Skylines – New Game Button is Greyed Out
To fix the issue, you need to create a folder as /Users/user/.config/Colossal Order. If it doesn’t work, you need to set .config file to read and write instead of just read.
