The new Call of Duty WW2 from Sledgehammer Games took less than two months to surpass $1 billion in global sales across all major platforms.

In a press release from last week, Activision officially announced that the latest installment in the popular franchise was the top grossing console game in North America last year. This makes it nine years in a row that Call of Duty has dominated the regional charts.

The impressive reception also makes it the best selling Call of Duty game on current-generation consoles, beating out the massively acclaimed Call of Duty Black Ops 3 from Treyarch. As it stands, Call of Duty WW2 now holds a new record for the biggest console digital launch in the history of Activision.

“Call of Duty: WWII is the #1 top grossing console game of the year in North America, and Destiny 2 is #2,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision. “That means Call of Duty has been the #1 top grossing console gaming franchise in North America for a staggering nine years in a row, and worldwide eight out of the last nine years. Thank you to our players for your incredible passion and engagement. And thank you to our talented, committed teams all across the globe that make incredible results like this happen.”

The Resistance expansion pack is scheduled to release for Call of Duty WW2 at the end of the month. It will feature three new multiplayer maps that are based on three different locations, as well as a new narrative-driven War mode and a new chapter for the survival-centered Zombies mode.

The expansion pack will arrive first for PlayStation 4 on January 30, and then for Xbox One and PC a month later. This is in accordance to an exclusivity partnership between Sony and Activision.
