Borderlands 3 hasn’t even come out yet and already it appears to be running into technical problems. A post on Reddit claims that playing Borderlands 3 on Xbox One X seems to run into difficulties when attempting to play the game at 4K resolution. Whether it gets patched or not remains to be seen.
Borderlands 3 is the long-awaited third main entry in the Borderlands series after Gearbox Software not only spent a lot of time on Borderlands 2 and the period surrounding it, but also kept us waiting years until announcing that Borderlands 3 was even a thing.
However, now that it’s finally a reality, Borderlands 3 comes out tomorrow. However, if Borderlands 3 on Xbox One X is having issues, that may not bode well for Gearbox’s 4K efforts. The Reddit post says that if you’re running the game in performance mode it’s a lot better, but running it in 4K mode causes the game to not even be able to keep a stable 30 frames per second.
While this isn’t a game-breaking bug that might cause a huge uproar, Xbox One X owners excited to play the game in 4K resolution might be in for a bit of disappointment until Gearbox releases a patch or comes up with some other way to fix the framerate.
However, if framerate is more your speed rather than graphics, the console’s performance mode should be much better for you, as it runs Borderlands 3 on Xbox One X at 1080p resolution at 60 fps. Less graphically impressive, but it won’t have any framerate drops.
While this issue with Borderlands 3 on Xbox One X might be a problem if you were hoping to play it on that console, if you haven’t bought it yet you still have the option of playing the game on the Playstation 4 or PC (if you’re willing to buy from the Epic Games Store). Borderlands 3 comes out tomorrow on the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
