Borderlands 3 PC Has More Players Than Borderlands 2, “Best Numbers In Gearbox History”

The decision to keep Borderlands 3 isolated to the Epic Games Store on PC at launch has apparently been a booming success. There were some concerns that the new installment would be risking a lot by ditching Steam, at least for the first six months. However, the new looter-shooter has passed with flying colors.

Taking to Twitter on the weekend, Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford announced that Borderlands 3 saw the highest peak concurrent players at launch on PC. While he didn’t share any data, he did mention that the figure was double of the all-time peak concurrent players of Borderlands 2.

According to third-party trackers SteamCharts and SteamDB, Borderlands 2 peaked at 123,596 and 124,678 players respectively when it launched some seven years ago. Doubling that would put Borderlands 3 nicely at around 250,000 players, all campaigning at once on PC.

Do note that the amount of concurrent players can’t be taken as an indication of sales. That being said, anything that’s twice of what Borderlands 2 did is always going to be a good sign, especially for the franchise.

Borderlands 2 has now sold over 22 million copies worldwide across all platforms, making it the best-selling game of publisher 2K Games. It’s why everyone, including Gearbox Software, have been comparing Borderlands 3 to its predecessor. There’s still no word on where sales stand at this point but unless Pitchford was pulling off one his magic tricks, Borderlands 3 does seem to be crunching impressive numbers on the Epic Games Store.

Unfortunately, the new sequel is currently in a bit of a rut with a slew of performance issues on PC as well as consoles. The players have managed to find some really odd fixes to their problems, which should suffice until Gearbox Software brings out a much-needed patch.

It’s not all too bad though. You can still grind your way through the campaign until a proper stability update arrives. Until then, you can also take a look at our guide section to help with collectibles, treasures, tips and tricks, character builds, and etc.
