Borderlands 3 Narrative Will Surprise Fans

The Borderlands series can be notable for three things. The art-style, the guns, and the humorous narrative. My personal experience with Borderlands 2 was the combat being a little sluggish. It was the writing and dialogue that carried the game for me. By the looks of it, Borderlands 3 is heavily banking on its narrative as well.

This piece of news was part of an interview with the game’s art director, Scott Kester. This was specifically what he had to say about the Borderlands 3 narrative:

“I think people will be surprised about the narrative inside this game, and the effort that’s been put into the presentation of it.”

Kester had several things to say during the interview. This one stuck out the most since it was in response to a good question. What will surprise players the most?

We should be expecting one hell of a narrative. The millions of guns are the usual gimmick for Borderlands games. EVen Borderlands 3 is marketed to shock players with all the gun combinations we’ll see. This time they plan to do so with the narrative.

This isn’t too outlandish to expect from Gearbox. After all, Borderlands 3 gave us one of the most memorable villains ever. Handsome Jack tops a lot of lists to this day of being the best video game villain.

The way the plot twists and turns along the path of the game was also gripping. Such as when Wilhelm appears out of the crashed train carriage. Or when Angel reveals herself to be a Siren working for Jack all along. These were all part of the narrative, which is what made some of the more boring segments of the game tolerable.

Borderlands 3 has a lot of narrative room in that sense. I mean to start off, they aren’t restricted to Pandora anymore. Now they can explore several planets and possibly even solar systems. The game also has two new antagonists now instead of just one. Making the villains Sirens was also a smart move. Since Borderlands has so much lore behind them already.

Borderlands 3 is set to release on the 13th of September. You can get it on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 or Epic Store. Let’s hope the game isn”t full of ads
