Borderlands 3 to Run at 60 FPS on Xbox One X, Base Console Locked at 30

Gearbox Software's producer Chris Brock has now confirmed that the team is aiming to deliver 60 frames per second (FPS) with Microsoft's Xbox One X.

Gearbox Software is aiming to deliver 60 frames per second (FPS) with Borderlands 3 on Xbox One X. This information was revealed by Gearbox’s producer Chris Brock during the Borderlands 3 gameplay reveal event which took place yesterday.

Since Borderlands 3 is still in development, Brock mentioned that the development team is trying to take the full advantage of the extra power that Xbox One offers and will likely give the players an option to choose between higher graphics quality or performance in Borderlands 3. This means that the players might be able to choose between 4K 30 FPS and 1080p 60 FPS according to Windows Central.

Brock also stated that the base console (Xbox One) will be locked to 30 FPS. As the game is still in development, these numbers are likely to change. We will know about the final numbers when the game officially launches in September.

Xbox One will be 30 FPS. Xbox One X we’re shooting for 60 FPS, but we’ll do what we can. We intend to offer favor fidelity and favor performance-type options. Yes, 4K on Xbox One X, said Chris Brock.

It’s good to see that Gearbox is trying to make the full use of Microsoft’s Xbox One X to deliver 60 frames per second. We are hoping to see it in the final version of the game.

There wasn’t any mention of frame rates for Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro or PC. However, we are guessing that Borderlands 3 will run at 60 FPS on PS4 Pro as well.

That said, the hour-long live stream gave us our first look at the gameplay of Borderlands 3. New gameplay details that we saw during the live stream include the ability to crouch-slide and climb on top of ledges. We also got our first look at the skill tree and some new characters with unique abilities. Moreover, Gearbox also showed us new villains of the game “the Calypso Twins”.

Besides the gameplay, Gearbox talked about microtransactions and confirmed that they do exist in the game. However, Paul Sage, Borderlands 3’s creative director says that these microtransactions will not be pay to win. We will know if it’s true or not when Borderlands 3 published by 2K Games releases on September 13.
