Blizzard Estadium Will Open Its Doors Next Week

“Blizzard Estadium” is the company’s first-ever gaming venue and is reportedly scheduled to be inaugurated next week in Taipei, Taiwan.

According to the official branch of Yahoo Esports, the studio is designed to host competitive events for the Asia-Pacific regions for titles like Hearthstone, Overwatch, and Heroes of the Storm. It also marks Blizzard’s commitment “to providing players with exciting experience.”

Michael “Mike” Morhaime, president and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment, will be attending the launch ceremony personally to officially open the doors of the Blizzard eStadium on March 30. The day will be followed by various professional teams competing against each other in exhibition matches. However, it is unknown as to which games will be played.

In addition, Blizzard will be revealing more information regarding its upcoming esports road-map and how it plans to utilize its new gaming venue.

There are already rumors that the Blizzard eStadium will be primarily used to conduct an Overwatch League in the coming months. Teams from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and perhaps Australia, are said to be warming up to participate. That being said, it is uncertain at this point as to whether this is the same league Blizzard announced last year or if it is a separate one for the region.

Earlier this month, Blizzard was reported to be approaching potential franchise buyers for the upcoming Overwatch League. The company hopes to sell franchises from smaller markets from anywhere between $2 million to $5 million. For larger markets, such as Los Angeles, the company is seeking a value between $10 million and $15 million for a single team slot.

Blizzard is expected to commence with the league in the third quarter of the year. With months going by, the company should be announcing more information next week when it announces its new gaming venue. On that note, it is possible that Blizzard will expand to construct additional stadiums across the globe.
