Mats “P4wnyhof” Karthage and Thomas “Sintolol” Zimmer have had their invitations revoked by Blizzard for the upcoming Hearthstone Global Games (HGG).
Posting on the official forums earlier today, community manager Valgrimasz stated that recent “inappropriate, and unsportsmanlike comments” made by both players have been taken into account by the disciplinary division. As a result, their invitations to the Hearthstone Global Games have been taken back and replacements will be announced soon.
P4wnyhof and Sintolol were previously voted by the public to represent Team Germany in the upcoming competitive event that is designed to bring together different regions of the world.
Most recently, it was brought to light that constant bickering between the two had reached an unprofessional level. P4wnyhof made homophobic remarks at Sintolol and also took jabs at him for being less popular. In return, Sintolol made an unpleasant comment about P4wnyhof’s fans being “mentally handicapped” and that the voting results makes it clear by “people like Hitler exist.”
P4wnyhof, in particular, is loathed by the general player-base. Controversy surrounds him for allegedly rigging a tournament once and also being involved with view-botting to falsify his viewership count on Twitch. While he has waved off the allegations, many from the community remain skeptical about his affairs.
As you can well imagine, P4wnyhof being voted to play in the Hearthstone Global Games was a big surprise. Even during the voting process, many professional players were not too happy with Blizzard including the controversial player. Earlier this week, Sebastian “Forsen” Fors went through his promise to withdraw from the tournament if P4wnyhof was allowed to play.
Blizzard has less than two weeks to finalize the replacements for Team Germany. Likely candidates include players like Sebastian “Xixo” Bentert, Jan “SuperJJ” Janssen, Raphael “BunnyHoppor” Peltzer, and Torben “Viper” Wahl.
HGG kicks off on April 10.
Update: Jan “SuperJJ” Janssen has just received and accepted an official invitation from Blizzard to represent Team Germany.
