What everyone was waiting for has finally come to fruition. Black Panther has now earned more in the domestic box office than any other comic book movie ever adapted for the silver screen in history.

Following the weekend, the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) raked in more than $630 million in entirety to push aside The Avengers (2012) from the top rung. It should be highlighted that this phenomenal milestone was reached in just under a month of release. Black Panther has not even concluded its theatrical run. Hence, the final tally of earnings is going to set a mighty bar for upcoming and future cinematic projects to overcome.

While Black Panther rules the domestic box office, it is currently making way into the top ten earners of all time in the worldwide box office. The critically acclaimed offering from director Ryan Coogler has so far earned more than $1.2 billion in the international market combined. It must now cross the $1.5 billion threshold in order to be crowned the highest grossing comic book movie of all time in the worldwide box office.

Black Panther only has about another month to achieve as many milestones in the box office as possible, just before the highly anticipated premiere of Avengers: Infinity War in theaters worldwide.

Black Panther takes place two years after the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016) that resulted in the assassination of King T’Chaka. The nation of Wakanda is now in political turmoil and on the brink of war.

The cast features Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, Winston Duke as M’Baku and Forest Whitaker as Zuri.
