Bayonetta 3 Announced Exclusively For The Nintendo Switch At The Game Awards

Bayonetta 3 was announced at the Game Awards last night, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch and coming sometime in the future.

Last night Platinum Games fans got a reason to celebrate when Nintendo announced that Bayonetta 3 would be coming to the Nintendo Switch sometime in the future. The announcement was made official when a trailer was revealed at The Game Awards last night, but we don’t know anything else about the game.

There hasn’t been a Bayonetta game out since Bayonetta 2 came out exclusively for the Wii U in 2014, three years ago. Both it and the first Bayonetta will also be getting a Nintendo Switch bundle in February, moving the original Bayonetta from Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 to Nintendo consoles. Platinum has been teasing Bayonetta 3 for a while now.

With the Nintendo Switch showing no signs of slowing down in terms of sales, a third Bayonetta game would likely perform well on the Switch if there are a lot of Platinum fans that have been looking for a game. The studio’s been fairly quiet ever since early this year when it helped release Nier: Automata, developing its praised gameplay while Yoko Taro handled its acclaimed story.

The ability to make yet another acclaimed character action game with a character that’s become as iconic as Bayonetta (especially given the PC port of the first game and its solid performance, along with the same thing happening to Platinum’s third person shooter Vanquish) will likely help Platinum Games even more, after the lackluster performance of Platinum’s “Legend of Korra” and “Transformers: Devastation” games and the cancellation of Scalebound earlier this year.

We’ll hopefully see more of Bayonetta 3 next summer when E3 begins, but in the meantime we’ll have PSX and a number of other events to wait on in order to hopefully see more of Bayonetta 3.

In the meantime, PSX is going to be starting tonight, so if you’re up for seeing trailers and gameplay for upcoming Playstation 4 games you should turn into one of the streams watching it tonight.
