The Assassin’s Creed: Origins World Holds The Future Of The Franchise

With Assassin’s Creed: Origins being a return to the wide-open exploration spaces of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, the Assassin’s Creed: Origins world may be indicating the series’ future, as a wide open world for players to explore after Syndicate and Unity were both restricted to one city, London and Paris.

Both Unity and Syndicate got a good bit of criticism for only sticking to one city after the wide-open spaces of Assassin’s Creed 3 and 4, even if they were fairly large and open cities. However, the Assassin’s Creed: Origins world promises us an enormous world to traverse, with plenty of ruins and temples and other areas to explore.

Assassin’s Creed: Origins will be taking place in Ptolemaic Egypt, during a time when Egypt was ruled by the descendants of Ptolemy, one of the generals of Alexander the Great who divided his empire upon Alexander’s death. Ptolemy’s family would rule Egypt until the fall of the kingdom in 30 BC, when the Roman Empire conquered Egypt.

The game will be a fairly large change in mechanics for the Assassin’s Creed series. In addition to a different way of fighting than the “wait for an enemy to attack and then counter” of previous Assassin’s Creed games, the game will also focus a great deal on exploration, and will restructure its missions so that they can be completed at any time (i.e., if you have to assassinate someone you can leave the immediate area and wait until you stumble across them at some other point and murder them then.)

Considering how much content Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag offered, ranging from exploring sunken ships to fighting vessels from Spain and the British Empire, upgrading your pirate cove and creating a fleet of pirate ships to trade with other nations, hopefully the Assassin’s Creed: Origins world will be able to give us just as much content and just as big of a world.

Assassin’s Creed: Origins comes out on October 27 for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
