We all love laptops for their added portability as well as compactness, but it is also for the same reasons why we have to go out asking around for a laptop cooling pad to buy. Thankfully, there is a lot of variety available in the market, and so many known and unknown companies launching their laptop coolers in the market. This has actually led to confusion for the common buyer.
There’s so much to choose from, so make sure you know exactly what to look for in a cooling pad. Fret not, though, we have included a buyer’s guide at the end of our product reviews too. Complete with all the advice you need, this is as far as you need to go.
Best Laptop Cooling Pad Tested with Competition
We have tested all sorts of laptop fans and pads whether they were made by famous brands like Thrustmaster or unknown companies that made their mark. From the number of fans to fan speeds, from fan power to value-adding features like fan control panels. We have compared all that there is, and more.
The thing is literally called a gaming laptop pad, so yes, this one does go the length. Offering as high as 1200 RPM, the Cooler Master laptop pad is one of the most high-end products that you can buy. Yes, it is insanely high priced too, but they have got goods to show for it.
For instance, At such high speed, its 160mm fan is able to drop the internal and external temperatures at rates comparable to the infamous Cooler Master U2 and U3. Except that the CM Storm SF-15 comes with much better style sense.
Not only does it pack the hallmark blue lighting but it is also quite good to look at. From a gamer point of view, it would complement the laptop perfectly. There are other areas where the laptop cooling fan takes the lead. For instance, when running at regular speed, its fans are also comparatively quieter.
Once you are accustomed to choosing between a quite experienced and high cooling experience, you will start to dote this USB powered fan. Nonetheless, with great performance, comes a great price tag too. And in the case of this CoolerMaster pad, it couldn’t be truer.
The CM Storm SF-15 cooling pad is possibly the most insanely priced product in our list of best laptop cooling pads. And to be honest it is also not flawless, with such premium quality, it would have been a better product with a display for temperature readings.
- Up to 1200RPM fan speed
- Great choice for gaming laptops
- Four USB ports
- No display for temperature readings
- Very expensive

The KLIM Cyclone Laptop Cooling Pad comes in two variants, one with a blue LED while another with a Red one, so if you are team blue, then you can go for that option as well. It has 5 fans for great cooling performance, the 4 smaller fans on the corners allow it to thoroughly cool your laptop in all directions.
The LED lighting is a nice touch, it gives the cooling pad a great look and it has an adjustable stand to give your laptop a tilt if required. The material quality is great and durable, the fans are also powerful. The 4 small fans work at a 2200 RPM while the one big fan in the middle rotating at 1200RPM, with a total of 5 fans it has one fan more than the KLIM Wind, which is a great budget cooling pad.
The larger size of the KLIM Cyclone laptop cooling pad allows for accommodating larger-sized laptops, the high fan speeds allow for instant cooling, improving the performance of the laptop housing it.
The only downside to this cooling pad is a small number of USB ports, it only has 2, one which will be occupied by the laptop to power the cooling pad, while the other can be used for other options.
With a 5 year warranty, the company claims its faith in the durability of the materials used in the KLIM Cyclone cooling pad, which is a great thing. You can place your PS4, Xbox and Switch on the cooling pad as well, the durable material can withstand the weight of the consoles with ease.
- Good number of fans
- High RPM fans
- Good LED lighting
- Very loud due to high number of fans
- Not a lot of USB ports
Certainly not to be confused with the other casually named cooling pad, the Kootek Cooler Pad Chill Mat 5, this one is a class of its own. We picked it up primarily to test for its unique design. And also to see if it was as good as it looks.
Coming around to it, we have figured that if you are just a regular laptop user looking to ensure no overheating occurs in the course of the day, a simple laptop cooling stand can do that. Seeing as how it is already here in our top five products, its compactly packed dual fans have done the trick.
Not only does the Targus Chill Mat come with two fans that are good enough for a 17″ laptop, but it also has open side vents for increased airflow from the fans. As a result, you get more heat removed in a smaller time. We expected it to be louder with those half-exposed interiors, but the cooling pad was extremely quiet all along.
All in all, it is an aesthetically excellent piece of support that not only works and looks great but also feels great on your lap thanks to a Neoprene exterior. The only problem is that it is so obtusely high priced that a budget buyer might not want to go this way.
- Premium aesthetics
- Sufficient temperature reduction
- Open side vents
- Very expensive
What’s a good gaming laptop without some hot RGB setup? You might already have something in mind, but give this a try. The Thermaltake Massive 20 is probably the best RGB laptop cooler that there is in the market right now. With its slimmer profile, the RGB strip looks right at home.
Thermaltake cooling pads are considered as good as any, and that isn’t just for the looks. Even this model stands true to that with its singular 7.87 inches fan. For its given slim size, you will find it cooling down the temperatures enough.
However, it is not the best in lowering temperatures if you compare it with the competition. The problem is that Thermaltake Massive 20 is priced higher due to the premium aesthetics. For instance, the Kootek Cooler Pad Chill Mat 5 appears cheap in comparison. As a result, the Thermaltake model has to compete with models that offer less cosmetic satisfaction but more in terms of power.
So in other words, we’d call it a great solution for general use, but not for the heavy-duty long sessions. Don’t let us lead you to believe it is bad at cooling though, you will get a reasonable laptop cooling solution too! If not for the most high-end gaming laptop it can be called the best cooling pad for a notebook at least.
- Great RGB strip in compact size
- Reasonable cooling
- Impressive 10″ to 19″ design
- Only one fan
- Not the best cooler at this price point
- Somewhat pricey
Laptop Cooling Pad Buyer’s Guide
Fans, Fans and More Fans
The first difference between a laptop stand and a cooling pad is that the latter comes with fans. More number of fans means you will get more hot air pumped out of your device. But it also means more noise. Users looking for the quietest of solutions should prefer models with one big fan instead of multiple motors.
What’s That Noise?!
Everything with cooling pads is linked. The size is connected to the fans which are connected to the noise. So far the noise element is real and you have to bear at least some decibels (dB) of it. Yet, thanks to a large number of manufacturers trying to prove themselves better, we get quieter models every day, like the impeccable Kootek Cooler Pad Chill Mat 5.
As a rule of thumb, the more fans your laptop pad has, the noisier it will be; the more power your fans use, the noisier they will be.
With Great Power Comes Great Noise, Too
Your fan power decides how much air gets through. And as a result, it is quite relevant in deciding which laptop cooler you are buying. The power also equates to how expensive, effective and noisy the solution. High-end laptop fans try to be more efficient in all these areas but ask for a higher price.
Aesthetics and Design Matters
The next thing you should look at is the design because apart from aesthetics, the size and weight also related considerations. You will need to match the maximum size allowed with the footprint of your laptop. And then also check if the model isn’t too heavy. Or else it will weigh down on your thighs and get uncomfortable soon.
Speaking about aesthetics in general, everything from the outward appearance to the material and quality of build are value-adding features that you will always need to pay extra.
Do I need a laptop cooling pad or a simple laptop stand will do?
It depends purely on the type of workload you do on the laptop and the resultant levels of overeating. In some of the milder cases, only a stand with proper ventilation will do. But for more serious power jobs (especially in high-temperature regions) a cooling solution becomes a must.
Why is there such difference in prices of cooling pad solutions?
When you go to buy a high-end product, it will have value-adding features like card readers, speakers, RGB lighting, USB ports, and even a control panel for the fans. Since it is a large market, there are manufacturers of all qualities. The material used as well as the build quality can also hike up prices even if all other features are the same.
