Hit Boxes are a fundamental idea when it comes to describing the area of damage around a character. This is particularly important to know for fighting games, but also has various use in modern shooters. Below, we will look at how these Hit Box figures vary for the different heroes in Apex Legends.
Apex Legends Hit Boxes
Succinctly put, hitboxes define the region around a character model where you can shoot or land hits to cause damage.
You might say, “Isn’t that just the figure of the model the region you’ll be able to inflict damage to, just like in real life?” and we will answer: not really. These are video games, and realism sucks when it goes to a great extent.
That is why you would nag a headshot even if you actually fired above the head of the character. It just makes for a more fun experience. In Street Fighter series, having Hit Boxes lie outside the characters’ bodies makes whiff punishes easier.
With that said, different shooters have a different approach to this hit box system. For example, games like Fortnite will have a universal hit box for every character regardless of their height and figure.
Apex Legends is unlike in this regard though, with smaller characters like Pathfinder being harder to hit than say someone like Gibraltar who is a bigger target because he carries a larger hit box.
Within the game, a choice like this is understandable to keep things fair. This is because some enemies might dish out extra damage or have more useful abilities than others have, so one vulnerability would be their large hitbox.
Legends with smaller hit boxes can hide behind small objects without the risk of being hit. The differences are considerable as well with Wraith (the shortest hit box) and Gibraltar (the largest hit box) standing apart almost by 140%.
Here are all the numbers:
- Wraith: 33 square cm
- Lifeline: 37 square cm
- Bloodhound: 37 square cm
- Mirage: 44 square cm
- Bangalore: 44 square cm
- Pathfinder: 63 square cm – 90% increase
- Caustic: 68 square cm – 105% increase
- Gibraltar: 79 square cm – 140% increase
It is hence a good thing to have some knowledge of these hit boxes before you select a legend for your playthrough session. It should be noted, however, that an anomaly exists as far as Pathfinder’s hit box is concerned.

Being disproportionate to his figure, the hit box is actually larger than it should be on paper. Thankfully, Respawn is looking into this matter and will follow up on it at their earliest.
