Xbox One Scorpio Might Be Using New AMD Vega/Ryzen CPU

Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox One Scorpio is reputed to be one of the most powerful consoles on the market, and a recent NeoGAF post going around has said that the Scorpio may be using the AMD Vega/Ryzen CPU architecture as its CPU, taking away from the 6 teraflop GPU that’s been the main focus.

If this is true, then it means that the Xbox One Scorpio will be launching with one of the most advanced CPU chip sets in existence right now, which would be even more powerful than many PCs that are on the market right now. Combining the AMD Vega/Ryzen CPU with its huge GPU space, the Xbox One Scorpio may have even more of a leg-up over the Playstation 4 Pro.

While the Playstation 4 line has had the advantage over the Xbox One ever since both consoles launched in 2013, both in terms of sales and graphics (mainly attributed to the Playstation 4 having a better selection of games and having a higher resolution), the Xbox One Scorpio is definitely a big investment by Microsoft. But will it be enough to overcome the Playstation 4 Pro in sales, when the Pro has already had several months of sales time?

Even with the Xbox One Scorpio having the AMD Vega/Ryzen CPU, the console’s sales mainly depends on what sorts of games the Scorpio is going to have on it. Numerous highly-anticipated games like Horizon: Zero Dawn, Nioh, Yakuza 0, and Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue are scheduled to come out on the Playstation 4 this year, and the possibility of prohibitive costs for the Scorpio (since Microsoft has said that it’s going to be priced as a premium console) might negatively impact its sales.

Either way, we’ll just have to wait until the Xbox One Scorpio releases later this year to see how it will go, especially with numerous graphics-intensive titles on their way.
