More AMD Ryzen 2 CPU Details Incoming At GDC 2018 In March

AMD’s second generation of CPUs are due to launch in April, however, before that AMD plans to give the PC enthusiasts a sneak peak of the upcoming Ryzen 2 CPUs at the Game Developer Conference (GDC) in March just ahead of its April launch.

Not only AMD will be revealing new details about its upcoming Ryzen 2 CPUs at the Game Developer Conference 2018 but will also be hosting a session regarding optimizing games for Ryzen CPUs. AMD will be revealing details about “upcoming next-generation Ryzen processors” during the same session.

Ryzen 2 CPUs will feature the updated 12nm production node which will result in improvements, however, don’t expect drastic changes in terms of core and thread-counts.

However, these CPUs will come with higher clock speed, an improved potential for overclocking which might result in increased performance for video games. But, until Ryzen 2 CPUs launch we can only speculate.

In related news, following the departure of Raja Koduri, AMD has hired Mike Rayfield and David Wang to lead its Radeon Group. Mike Rayfield is the new Senior Vice President and General Manager of Radeon Technologies while David Wang is the new Senior Vice President of Engineering. According to AMD CEO, Lisa Su:

“Mike and David are industry leaders who bring proven track records of delivering profitable business growth and leadership product roadmaps. We enter 2018 with incredible momentum for our graphics business based on the full set of GPU products we introduced last year for the consumer, professional, and machine learning markets. Under Mike and David’s leadership, I am confident we will continue to grow the footprint of Radeon across the gaming, immersive, and GPU compute markets.”

With Raja leaving AMD, the company has stated that it will not affect the Radeon business at all. However, according to Nvidia, this is a great loss for AMD.
