AMD EPYC Rome is going to be the upcoming server series that is going to replace the current generation of chips. The upcoming series is expected to be based on the 7nm process. While it was expected that the AMD EPYC Rome release would be before the end of the year. Mark Lipacis from Jefferies maintained a buy rating on AMD, with a price target of $30. The following is what he had to say in this regard:
We raise our 2019 EPS est and our price target following our meeting with management at our annual Chicago Summit. We have higher conviction that in 2H19, AMD will ship a server MPU with higher transistor density than INTC for the first time in recent history, if not ever. We see this as a foundational shift in competitive dynamics.
If this information is indeed correct then you can expect the AMD EPYC Rome release to before the end of the year. Lipacis also talked about how AMD is taking interest in the high-end notebook market and that aligns with the leaks that we have been getting regarding the high-end APUs that are going to be fitted into laptops. Meanwhile, our checks also suggest that AMD continues to take share in high-end notebooks. AMD remains a top Tectonic Shift pick. Foundational Shift. For most of the past 12 years, Intel has executed near flawlessly, as AMD often stumbled and lost share. Intel’s manufacturing lead led to smaller, cheaper, lower power and higher performance transistors – making it nearly impossible for AMD to reverse its share loss.
The AMD Ryzen 7 2800H and Ryzen 5 2600H are two examples of the upcoming H series APUs that are going to be coming to the upcoming notebooks. Keeping in mind how powerful the U series APUs are, the H series APUs will provide drastically better performance. The 2800H comes with 4 cores and 8 threads so not only is this a great gaming option but a decent content creation option as well. These APUs come with AMD Vega 8 graphics so you are getting a lot of performance at a very competitive price point.
