64 Cores/128 Thread AMD EPYC Still Coming, AMD EPYC “Rome” To Feature 48 Cores And 96 Threads

AMD made quite a lot of announcements at Computex 2018 and confirmed that it is going with 7 nm Zen2 architecture for its 2nd-gen EPYC CPUs. However, a report has made its way on the internet suggesting that upcoming AMD EPYC CPU, codenamed “Rome”, will feature 48 Cores And 96 Threads and 64 Cores/128 thread EPYC CPUs are also coming following that.

The report comes from Computex 2018, according to the report, sources have confirmed that the upcoming AMD EPYC Rome will feature 48 cores and 96 threads.

Not only that, the report suggests that following AMD EPYC Rome AMD will roll out EPYC CPUs with 64 Cores/128 threads which will be a huge leap in terms of performance.

Expect a 48 core / 96 thread generation before a 64 core / 128 thread generation. Still quite a huge gap. DDR4 and interconnect improvement information held up to further confirmations. 64 core / 128 thread apparently is still coming.

Not only that, AMD EPYC Rome will be compatible with the already existing SP3 socket motherboards, however, reportedly the EPYC Rome CPUs will “adopt PCIe Gen 4 so motherboards will have to support the higher signaling rates to achieve PCIe Gen 4”.

Speaking of AMD, the company has announced the 32 cores/64 threads 2nd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper which will be based on the 12 nm process.

Aside from featuring 32 cores and 64 threads, these Ryzen Threadripper CPUs will be compatible with the already existing TR4 socket on X399 motherboards.

Furthermore, a report has made its way to the internet suggesting that 12-16 Core AMD Ryzen CPUs will be dropping in 2019.
