Rumor: PlayStation 4 Sales Cross 90 Million Units, What Does It Mean for PS5 Release Date?

PlayStatiopn 4 sales have crossed 90 million units worldwide, according to a new rumor. What does this mean for PlayStation 5 release date?

PlayStation 4 sales have crossed 90 million units worldwide, according to a new rumor circulating the internet. The news comes from an unofficial source but the last time we heard of sales numbers of Sony, PS4 was at 81.2 million back in July.

It has been 5 months including the holiday season so it isn’t far-fetched to think PlayStation 4 sales may have actually gone past 90 million. Games like Spiderman, Black Ops 4, Battlefield 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 are without a doubt system seller.

We are now officially into 2019 and it is clear that PS4 has won this generation. The current console cycle is coming to an end so we will soon hear something about Sony’s future plans. However, considering the success of PlayStation 4, the next-generation PlayStation system could take a bit longer than some expect.

There are rumors that Sony will release PS5 in holiday 2019, a recent teaser from the company led to wild speculations around the world.

But a more realistic expectation is PS5 release date being set somewhere in holidays 2020. PlayStation 5 release date won’t be properly showcased until E3 2020. But a brief tease could come our way this year at the PlayStation Experience.

Sony is skipping this year’s E3 which means that PlayStation 5 announcement could happen in December 2019 at the PlayStation Experience.

Both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 released in November. If Sony still follows the same pattern and try to capitalize on the holiday season, PlayStation 5 release date should be set in November of 2020.

Meanwhile, rival Microsoft isn’t skipping the biggest gaming event of the year. Xbox Scarlett is expected to make its debut at this year’s E3. Xbox Scarlett could take a year’s end start so a 2019 release date isn’t out of the question.
