With Nvidia announcing its Turing based RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 2080 and RTX 2070, gamers are looking at AMD to announce their next-gen 7nm Navi GPUs. Well fret not, as the company has confirmed its 7nm AMD Navi GPUs for late 2018 release.
In a recent press release from AMD, the company confirmed that it has shifted its 7nm product production to TSMC and also confirmed that its 7nm AMD Navi GPUs will be in the market in late 2018.
Furthermore, AMD has also confirmed that its 7nm server CPU will launch in 2019. it will be interesting to see how well AMD GPUs will perform against Nvidia’s Turing architecture based RTX GPUs.
AMD’s next major milestone is the introduction of our upcoming 7nm product portfolio, including the initial products with our second generation “Zen 2” CPU core and our new “Navi” GPU architecture. We have already taped out multiple 7nm products at TSMC, including our first 7nm GPU planned to launch later this year and our first 7nm server CPU that we plan to launch in 2019. Our work with TSMC on their 7nm node has gone very well and we have seen excellent results from early silicon.
However, given that AMD is focusing on the CPU market with its Ryzen products and is already given Intel a tough time, I don’t expect AMD to launch something groundbreaking in the GPU market at least for 2018.
But, I am not ruling out the possibility of AMD to surprise this year like it did in 2017 with its 1st-gen Ryzen CPUs.
Speaking of the AMD, Freesync is an AMD GPU exclusive feature that allows for the users to run their game at variable frame rates without any screen tearing.
However, you can trick the Nvidia GPU to support Freesync which as exciting as it is interesting.
Not only that, Microsoft has promised to bring this feature to Xbox One S and Xbox One X and currently this feature is accessible to insiders.
Xbox One would be the first console to feature freesync and also make sense for the console to support Freesync as it uses the AMD APU.
AMD has been very light on details for its upcoming 7 nm AMD Nai GPUs it will be interesting to see how well these GPUs will perform against Nvidia RTX GPUs.
